When it is spring and summer, I prefer doing outside things, but in the cold winter weather, I mostly stay inside now, and enjoy reading, painting on the iPad, or working on a knitting or crocheting project.
I like to knit socks and slippers, and also enjoy making the little crocheted throw rugs from yarn and plastic bags.

I just finished making socks for my grandson, and slippers for his wife and two daughters, and will be sending them in the mail probably by Monday.

How cute ….we visited a tourist office on Mount Tamborine in Qld just before Covid , and a lady was knitting slippers I commented how pretty the wool was she was using , and she finished them off and gave them to me ….it was so nice of her ( they were being sold in the tourist office as well ) anyway i didn’t use them till we went home , but they had knotted joins under the heel and ball of foot areas , so I gave them to a op shop after washing them as they were ok for just sitting …but no good for walking a few feet away while wearing it was like having rocks in your shoes

Yvonne, your knitting results are so nice, I gave up with knitting - not that I could do so now.
But I gave it a try years ago and ended up with 'more stitches' than I started with
Using a creamy beige colored wool, rather thick too - a pair of gloves ended up like a .....
bunch of bananas ! Gave us a good laugh and kept them in a drawer for years ☺️

I tried crocheting way back when. My mother-in-law patiently tried to teach me. My brain knew how, but the message was lost between there and my fingers. I was a pretty good seamstress, though. I made my niece's wedding dress, and it was pretty. I made my daughter a lot of pretty things until she got old enough to insist on wearing jeans.

I finished knitting the socks and slippers for my grandson, and then made socks for my son and his wife, and a scarf for her with the extra yarn left over from her socks. we went to the postoffice to send them, and for two packages, it cost me almost $40 ! ! Neither package even weighed a whole pound, and it was $16 to ship each one, plus almost $5 for the little shipping bags .
That is totally crazy for shipping prices !

So sweet, Yvonne!

My mom knitted and turned out slippers, toques, and mitts and things for us kids when we were younger, and she crocheted doilies and table runners.

I remember her washing the doilies and starching them, perfectly formed and scalloped edges when she was done.

I don't follow directions well. I crocheted a sweater that turned into a jacket by the end. I ripped it out and made a lap robe....
