I'm familiar with the name but we only had one channel and, either it didn't get that one, or there was something else on at the time. As the second-to-the-youngest child, I didn't often get to pick.
Yes , remember them well. @Don Alaska .. I was on the Howdy Doody show once . Also met Mickey and Amanda in person..that was another show, some of you may not have seen. Captain Kanagroo was Calriable the clown first. He would ride around our neighborhood in a van with a driver and throw out Toms peanut packages and candies. Fun times
A lot of these shows were local. In the DC area, we had Ranger Hal the guy was a make-believe forest ranger who was kinda like Captain Kangaroo. He had his studio set and his critter puppets. I just read he also aired in Florida on an affiliate station. Then there are the shows we are all familiar with: Romper Room was syndicated for over 40 years. Captain Kangaroo aired nationally on CBS for 30 years.
I think I used to watch "Uncle Fred" or something like that. It came on at 4 PM when television started broadcasting before soap operas made the transition from radio. It was mostly cartoons if I remember right.
Yes, I watched it every day when we got our first TV. Ollie was my favorite. I thought he was an alligator. "The first NBC network broadcast of the show took place on January 12, 1949, out of Chicago,.... did not have a script, and was entirely ad-libbed." Also remember Beulah the Witch.
Remember..... He hosted many of the station's children's shows such as The Clubhouse Gang and The Three Stooges Funhouse dressed in a policeman's uniform and introducing himself as "Officer Joe Bolton". ... When hosting "The Dick Tracy Show", Bolton wore a police chief's uniform.
