I have seen these you-tube porch pirate 'karma' videos, and I am in favor of them. [if real?] But how do they work? What causes the small explosions? It looks like [in most of them] it is loaded with some sort of paint? or colored powder.

Or ...... is it all just fake? Some kind of made-up drama, just made for you-tube?
 
As Beth said, most (all?) of them are staged. I have no idea how one would rig something like that, but I doubt that our homeowner's insurance would protect us from a lawsuit. On the other hand, I've seen electric fence zappers hooked up to political signs in people's yards so the thief gets zapped, and I've not heard of lawsuits. (Those things hurt...ask me how I know.)

It might be easy enough to hook up a switch to turn on a siren or a recording to play "You Thieving $&*#%$*&!!!!!" when the box is picked up.

I don't hang out on the Next Door forum, but I'll click on notification emails that I get. It's amazing (disgusting) the number of posts you see where packages have been delivered to the wrong address (the Confirmation Picture shows the package on an unknown porch) and the person who receives them apparently does nothing to get them to the right party. They don't carry it to the right address, they don't notify the carrier, they don't do nothing. I don't understand. I've had someone else's stuff delivered to my place once, and since I was out running to the store anyway, I dropped the darn thing off to the rightful owner.

I don't know why I haven't been kicked off of it. I am openly hostile to the idiots who move to this rural area then state "We need to get more people to move here so a better grocery store will come." I offer up a list of nearby places that already have lots of people and better grocery stores, along with the name of a real estate agent who can help sell their home here. In spite of that, I actually received an offer to me a Moderator there!! LOL!!!! I should have taken it, just to mess with the idiots. "You have been banned for 10 days for having stupid thoughts."

I do like it for keeping me aware of things that are happening here, like new stores and government activities.
