Instead of animal welfare under rodeo title, we can put it here.
I have had cows, horses, sheep, dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, snakes...I don't DO Goats!
I have provided the best care I could. I have put them down on occasion. There was one person who found fault with how I kept them, not understanding the situation. And I have looked around the area and not liked how some others kept their animals.
I never neglected them or abused my animals. although I did yell at them many times.
 
I don't know why you don't do goats @Mary Stetler. Along with pigs, they are the smart livestock. We had all the listed stuff above except cattle and horses. I had a rule that all livestock on our place had to contribute something other than companionship. I didn't have the patience to wait for beef to mature, and I had no use for horses, the most expensive livestock to own in Alaska because our winters are so long and quality hay is outrageously expensive. Highland cattle do okay here, but most other breeds require heated shelter.
 
I don't like animals that dance on my cars. I did think about nigerian dwarfs once, but, no.
It didn't cost much to raise a bottle calf to meat size because I have pasture and cheap hay. Today a bottle calf costs $1200!!!! In three years I won't be able to afford a hamburger cuz daughter says no more cows.
I really don't know how people afford horses now either.

Taxes! Grandfathered property with livestock requirements. In my area you see million plus residences with horses, burros, longhorns grazing in the front yard. The other day a rooster was herding his hens across Highway 152:)

We had up to 50 goats and never once had any dance on our cars. One did, however, harvest our Brussels sprouts one year.
 
100 DEAD CROWS alongside a highway in Oregon was investigated by the State Wildlife experts. They determined that the deaths were not from a bird flu or any virus, but vehicular. 98 crows were struck by TRUCKS and only 2 by cars. The experts concluded that the crows were able to avoid most cars, because of the cars low profile and aerodynamic windshields that carried the birds up and over the vehicle safely. Such was not the case with trucks. They concluded the birds, because of the busy highway, had to eat the roadkill until the last second before flying in order to get enough to eat.

Wildlife experts were concerned because crows are a protected bird and requested a judge ban trucks from this busy Oregon highway. The judge ruled that a PETA scientist and activist would study the crows in this area for 7 days at a budget of $100,000 of tax payer’s money. The PETA expert’s conclusion would be heard and a ruling made at that time.

THE PETA REPORT

I observed several hundred crows over the last 7 days feasting on roadkill left on the Oregon highway. The crows, all 7 days, had a watch out bird posted on the power line alongside the highway. As vehicles approached the watch out bird would call out … “caw … caw … caw” … whether it was a car or truck. The watch out bird always called out on the trucks, but the feasting birds, never looking up didn’t differentiate. I would suggest as a solution, that bird language experts teach lookout crows to say “tra … tra … tra” and identity experts teach crows to differentiate between a car and a truck.

THE JUDGES RULING

Ignorance is NO excuse for violating the law. I find the watch out birds guilty of bird slaughter and order them all rounded up and imprisoned on a bird refuge where they will be fed choosing from a vast organic menu, groomed daily, receive state of the art medical attention, have access to a full equipped bird gym and a personal workout trainer as well as an unlimited education, until which time they can demonstrate satisfactory language and vehicular identity skills to return to the wild.

Minded what? My wife loved the animals and milked at least 4 every day, even down to -40. We had to sell the herd when I broke my back as she could not haul water and lift it over the fence, not to mention the feed bags and hay bales.
