In August of 1986, I bought the home I am still living in today. A perfect location for me, it was the last house on the right on a country road. To the right side of me, next to an FM highway at the end of my road, was nothing but 5 acres of beautiful, wooded lot, across the road was another big, wooded lot, and to me, this was paradise! At night, I could sit outside and hear owls and other critters of the night. I could open my kitchen window and lean out, and I was in the woods! I was living life at the speed of light, between work, music, fitness, and whatever social life I could get in, and to return home to the peace was to me a dream. I would lay in the sun, hit the gym, run at night, and I was the onliest one out there! Now, across the street is a family, busy bodies who never stop. People coming and going. Often, they are sitting on the tailgate of a truck , drinking and just hanging out. They always yell at me when I get my mail or even step out of the house, which annoys me, so I started ignoring them altogether. Then, a fire station/rescue unit was built right next to me!!! Sirens, horns , noise and lights at all hours, scaring me and my cats every time. Apartments have sprung up everywhere, and a football stadium up the highway, stores, more neighbors, noise...etc. The only house to my left, I have had to endure changing neighbors 5 times over the years. So much for a peaceful retirement. Oklahoma is not far from me, and I am studying moving there, far out in the country. Last Halloween, some guys came to the door and I handed out candy, one of them said "You are a cool lookin' witch!"I did have on a long black dress, but I told him I look like this all the time, this isn't a wig or costume, it's my real hair and face. He apologized, thanked me, and they hurried off. Yep, a witch who once lived in paradise, now looking for another haunted house to live in... hopefully, far, far away from here.
