Mr. Allen Swift ( Springfield, MA )... Received this 1928 Rolls-Royce Piccadilly-P 1 Roadster from his father, brand new - as a graduation gift in 1928. He drove it, up until his death in 2010 at the age of 102. He was the oldest, living owner of a car that was purchased new. Just thought you'd like to see it. It was donated to a Springfield museum after his death. It has 1,070,000 miles on it, still runs like a Swiss watch, dead silent at Any speed and is in perfect, cosmetic condition at 82 years of age. That's Approximately 13,048 miles per year, 1,087 miles per month. 1,070,000! That's miles, not kilometres! That's British engineering from a bygone era.
Yeh, that British engineering was gone when Jaguars, MGs and Austin Healeys came along. How could Lucas make such an electrical system for use in damp, dreary England? Regarding this Rolls...I am surprised to read that it has a straight 6 engine. I would have expected a 12...either inline or V. ps: You might want to recheck your article, @Tony Page. This one is worded exactly as yours, and it says 170,000 miles (not many more than my 2005 GMC truck), not over 1,000,000. edit to fix the wrong Tony: @Tony Nathanson
Your 1,000,000+ number makes much more sense than the 170,000 over a 72 year period. I used to attend antique car shows. I loved looking under the hood and seeing V-12s. I think there was an old Caddy that had a V-24. Talk about your mechanical marvels.
