My brother may be dying

When we left at about 11 pm, they had removed the ventilator and other life support apparatus, and he was still breathing several hours later, but was not expected to survive. I don't know if he even knew who was there yesterday because he was on so much pain medication. The last time I talked to him was shortly after he began cancer treatment, before the pneumonia and the flu. He said that he didn't want to, but that he wasn't afraid to die. I wish my faith was that strong. I haven't heard from anyone yet today, so I don't know what the plan is.

Besides my brother, two of my 1st cousins, including one who was among my best friends through the 8th grade, are in the same hospital. I'll be visiting him before I head back to Maine.

I think I have explained this in the old forum but, for the sake of what we have now, I had five natural siblings. My youngest brother (5 years younger than myself) died about three years ago. My brother who is in the hospital now is three years older than me. I have two other brothers, one about 5 years older than me, and another who is a few years older than that. My oldest brother just completed a 100-mile bicycle ride a few months ago, and has always been athletic, while I don't think anyone else in the family has been, although some of them are interested in sports, which is more than I can say for myself (I like baseball if I can be at the stadium, but don't follow any particular team or players).

My dad remarried about ten years after my mom died. I never referred to his new wife as my stepmother, not because I resented or in any way disliked her, but because she was only a few years older than I was, and I was about the leave home by then, anyhow. She had one daughter from her first marriage, which I did think of as my stepsister because I got to know her as a child, and later as adult. She died a few years ago. My dad and his second wife had four children but, while at least one of them got mad at me because I didn't include them when I mentioned my siblings on Facebook, it was because I was living in California when they were born and grew up in Michigan, later moving with their mom to Kentucky when she divorced my dad. I have only met the oldest one twice (once when I was visiting my dad while he was a baby, and another time when they drove to Maine and stayed with us for a week or so). I like him well enough but I don't really know him and have never met my other half-siblings.

There is now resentment there on my part. I liked my dad's second wife and was in touch with her even after my dad died a few years after their divorce. It's just that when I think of my siblings, I think of the ones who I grew up with or got to know in a more intimate way.

We all hope our faith is strong. But it does not matter because God believes in and is with you.
Cyber hugs.
