Moving!

First, I want to say a BIG "Thank You" to Yvonne for sending me a message concerning our move.

IOW, we made it here! I drove from St. George, Utah to Loveland. My wife was too exhausted to drive any further from our apartment in Henderson to St. George, so we stopped for gas and I took over. We stopped in Grand Junction for the night at a Best Western. When we got to Grand Junction, it was already fairly dark. I "thought" I had made a reservation at the same Best Western that we had stayed at in Grand Junction when we moved to Henderson, but it wasn't. Apparently, that hotel had closed. Anyway, the Best Western we stayed at was more like Motel 6, very different than the Holiday Inn Express we've stayed in a number of times. I drove all the way thru the Rockies and the major ski resorts were closed, but there was still a small amount of snow on the mountain sides. As we headed towards the I-25, the traffic was getting faster and more of it. It was Memorial Day and people were heading home. The I-25 is still being worked on, like it was Labor Day Weekend of 2023, when we were heading to Henderson.

When we got to the Eisenhower Blvd (34) on ramp in Loveland, both of us were pretty surprised that I knew where I was and where the hotel (Hampton Inn) was. Our room at the Hampton Inn was great, as was the indoor Whirlpool-Jacuzzi we relaxed in twice. The indoor pool was just too cold for us to go in. We hadn't been in a Whirlpool-Jacuzzi for a long, long time. We like this Hampton Inn so much, we spent two nights there. IOW, Memorial Day (when we arrived) and the next night after the Moving Company dropped off everything in our apartment and garage.
 
The apartment complex we had chosen to move to, is nice, but it's more like living around a bunch of "high school/college" aged kids. I've only met one lady that was around our age! The complex buildings are 3-story high. The young lady, and her 2-year-old daughter live above us. Our ceiling, and their floor, is pretty thin! We could hear the daughter running back and forth across our living room ceiling and, one time, we could hear her bouncing some kind of ball. The noise was pretty loud. We reported the noise to management, but we were told, "small kids live here and they can make noise". Heck, I even done a few iPhone videos of the running, but that didn't seem to concern either the Manager or Asst. Manager. In fact, we received an e-mail from them sort of "putting us down" for complaining about the noise. We were also told, "This complex may not be a good match for you living here. If you wish, we have a 30-Day Trial Period to move out, without any repercussions on the Lease Agreement." For us, packing up and moving out, definitely wasn't an option! We thought, "do we have to remind them about how old we are?", but it sure doesn't look like they like our age bracket living here!

Management had the mother come downstairs and talk with us (at the door), and that conversation didn't go over very well. She had her little girl with her.

So, we KNOW that we have to handle some noise from the little girl above us, which isn't much during the week, because the mother works and has someone (parents?) look after the little girl. However, on the weekend, like last weekend, our first weekend in this apartment, the running went on continuously most of Saturday and Sunday. We will have to see what happens this weekend. I have my iPhone 17 Plus ready to record the noise, if it gets too much for too long.

And, I'd better add this in, the Asst. Manager told us that the mother is pregnant again. The Asst. Manager we get along with fine, but we won't talk about our relationship with the Manager. She hasn't wanted to see us, or talk to us, at all. In fact, she told us, in the e-mail she sent us, "I don't want you coming to the office anymore and taking to my Staff. Just send us an e-mail."

Anyway, in conclusion, I do remember where most every place is here. The restaurants we use to go to, are still here and we've been to all but one. We were very surprised, after we stopped by our old apartment complex, that both the Maintenance Supervisor and her Assistant, are still working there. We drove up to Fort Collins last Saturday and had breakfast at Waffle House, that we had been to a number of times when we lived here before, and my ham/cheese omelet was great. In fact, the one older cook remembered us! From there, we drove down the street to Centennial Livestock Auction where a Hay Sale was going on and cattle were coming in for the following week auction. After that, we went to the Firearms Store, across from Waffle House, to see if the Indoor Range was still open and it was. From there, it was a stop at Boyd Lake State Park to get the registration for our boat taken care of. Went by the lake and it was unbelievably low! The lake hadn't gotten any water from Greeley for this summer. There is "no way" that we could put our boat on the lake this year! The marina and rentable slips were even closed. So, we'll try and start our boat at the Boat/RV Storage we are at, and if we can't get it started, will take it to the same Marine Service we used before and see what they can do. If we can get it started, we will wait until September and then take to the Marine Service and have it "winterized" for the coming winter here.

As for the apartment complex we've moved into, we will do our Lease Agreement (1-year), than possibly, move to a different complex. But, between now and then, we will definitely do some "downsizing" of what we have.
 
I am glad to hear that the moving process went well, and no problems with the holiday traffic on that long drive. Hopefully, you can get settled in and used to living where there are little kids running around , since you have decided to spend the whole year before moving again.

Soon you will have a baby crying at all hours of the day and night, and the mother will be home from work, so the little girl will be home, too.
Sounds like LOTS of noise for this whole summer !

(I think that I would have taken the 30 day option and moved again while I still have everything in boxes, rather than going through all of that unpacking, spending a year with kids keeping you awake all night, and then still having to pack up and move again a year form now. But that is just me….. if a situation is going to be hard for me to live with, changing it as soon as possible is what I prefer.)

Ditto. A lot of work, but a year is a long time to be miserable. Cody, I don't know why you'd bother recording the noise when management is clearly not interested.

I'm glad the trip went smoothly and you are back in a familiar area, Cody.
 
I'm glad you made it safely.

I've done apartment life exactly 2 years in my entire life. I was married when we bought a house, and less than 3 months later we split up. I can't begin to explain how house poor I was, making a mortgage payment on $5/hour, but there was no way I was gonna go back into an apartment. People suck. I got stories...
 
Having lived in Southern California, I know that houses are just out of reach for a lot of people, and that others might simply prefer not to deal with the maintenance involved, even when renting, but I have always hated apartments because among the people above, below or on one side or the other of you, you are sure to have someone who is a PITA, and there generally is nothing that can be done about it without making enemies, and that rarely solves the problems either. I can see that if only a couple of people in the apartment complex are concerned about keeping things quiet, management will cater to those who aren't. That doesn't make it right, but it's understandable.

First, Yvonne, we don't know how far along the mother is. Second, we think she will continue to work and leave the baby, as well as her little girl, with a babysitter, whom we think is her parents. It's only her and her little girl that live in the apartment, that we know of. Third, we have already unpacked 80% of our stuff. I've taken all of the Wardrobe, and other boxes, to the trash. IOW, financially and physically, we just couldn't do the 30 day option. The little girls noise has tamed down, but we don't know what will happen this weekend. All we do know is, we can't move.

The Asst. Manager is interested and told us to keep a log of the noise, as well as record the sound, and e-mail both to him. So far, now, the noise hasn't been nearly as bad as it was.
 
And here we go again! Chances are finding another apartment that would be quieter and senior friendly, is very slim. I certainly understand not wanting to move again, it might be too much strain health wise and you might end up in a worse place.

Anyway glad you made the trip safe and are in familiar surrounding.

Thing is, John, we have our own "problem stores" of after we bought our house in 2004. IOW, two rather large Woods Owls sitting on top of the house behind ours, hooting to each other at 2AM. Shining a large flashlight into them, made both fly away. Then, there was two dogs barking in the backyard of the house next to ours. The husband worked as a school security guard at night and told his wife to put the dogs in the garage before she went to bed............of which she didn't do. I won't get into the other problems we had after buying the house. So, that means, unless your neighbor is some miles away, like in a farm or ranch area, there very well can be noise from a next-door neighbor.
 
During the 10 1/2 years we lived in a "bungalow" apartment, meaning the apartment was at the end of a building and nobody living above us, in Jacksonville, Florida, we still encountered some noise problems outside. The apartment building next to us, an upstairs resident left his dog out on the patio all day and it barked all day. It drove us nuts! Management told the resident, "either the dog goes or both of you go". The resident got rid of the dog. An air conditioner, in the building next to us, was making all kinds of noise. We reported it to management and they replaced it. So, even though the apartment was a 1-story "bungalow", with nobody over us, there was still some outside noise that we had to contend with and the manager handled. Just one reason we stayed in that "bungalow" for 10 1/2 years. However, it took a hurricane to make us leave and move back to Colorado.
 
BTW, Faye, did you hear/read about the horse stabbings (Barrel Horses) at the Barrel Racing Competition at the South Point Area over Memorial Day Weekend? The young lady that done it was caught by Las Vegas Metro Police and is facing felony charges.

Did you also hear/read about Rocker Steiner having surgery? He will be out for a few months, but vows to be in the NFR 2026 in December.

Well, as long as you are happy with your decision to stay and live with the young people and noise, that is all that matters, @Cody Fousnough . You two are the ones who have to put up with it, and it sounds like you have made the decision that suits you both the best, and that is what is important.
We are all just voicing our opinions, and are happy that the move went well and that you are now living in Colorado where you have been wanting to live.

I didn't! What has the world come too when someone stabs horses at barrel racing. That makes me sick! I don't keep up with Rocker as I still think he needs a good spanking. Maybe the surgery will humble him some and he won't take away from the respect for old time ranch values at rodeo. My grandmas horse quirt on his posterior, would work wonders. :sneaky:

Here there are rentals too. I was told not to get a low income one as they are a bit of a nightmare but there are many here that are duplexes and very nice.

This is what I was thinking. Why not look for an "Over 55, No children" apartment to begin with.

Well Cody, I live on the outskirts of town with nothing but pasture and hayfields on one side. Owls hoot 24/7 in mating season, crows raise hell, and occasionally a raven gets agitated and vocal. My neighbors dog barks starting at 1 AM and until 5 AM when they let him in. He is a little yapper and doesn't have a pleasant bark. I don't hear cows mooing anymore, since they moved them about a mile away. Occasionally a gun shot when some opossum or raccoon has met his fate.

Worst is the new age hot rods that sound like an old Singer sewing machine winding up. They are unmuffled and drag race about 11 PM. Since I have a secondary country highway on one side, they use it for their races. It wakes me up from a sound sleep if windows are open, but I have coordinated it with my nightly pee time, so it all works out with minor aggravation.

Living my entire life in a rural setting, sounds don't bother me unless they they sound like some human is breaking in. Day time sounds don't bother me at all.
