Lindsay Clancy Murder Trial

Anyone following this trial of the woman who murdered her three small children? I haven't paid a lot of attention but I heard that the jury began deliberation today.

Personally, I believe she is guilty of first degree premeditated murder. Period. No amount of whining about post-partum psychosis will ever change my mind.

Won't change my mind, either. She's not the first woman who wanted to get rid of her kids & she won't be the last.
Some murderers think the more insane their murders appear, the more likely they are to successfully use the insanity defense.

Have any of you ever had post-partum depression? I have. I can tell you firsthand that it's a deep, dark place. I would never want to go there again.

I thought I was crazy and I was afraid to tell anybody because I thought they would take my children away. It lasted for three months and went away just as suddenly as it began. After that I was the best mother anybody ever had. I know that is true because my children tell me so. ☺️

So, I am not so quick to judge mothers who kill their children. We cannot fathom what goes on in their mind. I am also sure if they recover, they live in hell for the rest of their life living with what they have done.

NBC just interrupted regular programming to go to the courtroom

The judge declared a mistrial, because the one juror was a holdout.

They didn’t say which way that juror was a hold out, but according to snippets on the news, this particular juror has continually been going against what the judges wishes have been during the entire trial. Perhaps that juror should not have been allowed on there in the first place. I don’t know. I haven’t followed it that close.

Yes, I have. But no matter how crazy I felt, killing my children just didn't occur to me. I would have killed myself first. They said it took 3-5 minutes to strangle each one of her babies with an exercise band. Can you imagine that? I have ZERO sympathy for her; she is wealthy and had a damn nanny. Besides the google searches she did before she murdered them. Premeditated murder.

I've been in many "Deep Dark" places. So have scores of others. I'd never consider murdering innocent people & neither would scores of others.....let alone her own children.

but did you murder your children? That detail matters.

I have not followed this trial. When someone murders or molests a child, a trial should only be about whether or not they committed the crime. We don't need people on Earth who do this kind of thing, so I don't care if they're mentally ill or not. It seems like an odd question, anyhow. Anyone who murders their children has to be mentally ill, but this shouldn't mean they are not guilty of the crime or that they deserve to live amongst the rest of us.

That is true. The issue in this trial was her mental health at the time. Although I have not followed this trial, I come upon comments periodically when reading other things. One report I read said she tried to commit suicide when she realized what she had done. They are referring to Post Partum Psychosis as an extension of Post Partum Depression. Never having been a woman who has given birth, I really have no idea what it is like.

A few facts. The baby was 8 months old and the mother had a nanny, plus her husband and her mother to help her out. She did "attempt suicide" by jumping into a snowbank from a second story window. She had no intention of actually dying. Of course that backfired when she broke her back and is now paralyzed and in a wheelchair.

She also spent a lot of time googling stuff, and mapping/timing her husband's trip to the places she sent him to (CVS and a restaurant) while she murdered those babies with elastic exercise cords. So she wasn't so impaired that she couldn't plan a triple murder in detail.

No one should be surprised that the crazy women who support her also think full term abortion is "A-OK". Funny that those same wild-eyed crazies would have been the first to call the police if the mother left one of the kids unsupervised while riding a bike. The world is crazy now.

Oh, and as for mentally impaired... the same could be said for Jeffrey Dahmer and Ted Bundy, but no one wanted them acquitted.

Usually, when someone "Tries to commit suicide" as opposed to "Committing Suicide," they want sympathy & support, rather than death.
Lindsay Clancy likely used it to sway jurors & get away with the murders.
Some people will go to great lengths & risk to try to get away with a crime. Like this guy who killed his wife & shot himself four times (in non-lethal areas he researched ) & claimed they were victims of an attempted robbery:
  • Date of Crime: August 2002 at Guana River State Park (now Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve) in Florida. [1, 2]
  • The Staging: Justin Barber claimed an unknown robber attacked them on the beach, killed his wife, and shot him four times in the chest, shoulder, and hand. [1, 2, 3]
  • The Motive: Financial strain, infidelity, and a life insurance policy worth more than $2.1 million on his wife. [1, 2]
  • The Trial and Conviction: Investigators quickly doubted his story because none of April's expensive jewelry was stolen and the self-inflicted wounds appeared calculated. Barber was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison in 2006. Decades later, his unconvincing fake crying on television continued to be analyzed by crime experts as a key indicator of his guilt.
Remember Diane Downs? She was interested in a co-worker but he didn't want to marry a woman who had kids. She had three. So, she shot all three of her kids & shot herself in the arm & claimed a black carjacker did it. One child died, one recovered & her three year old was permanently paralyzed.

The attempt to portrait the suicide as "faked" was shaky as she allegedly threw herself out a second-story window, not the usual way to fake a suicide. Who knows? The cuts certainly could be a fake attempt.
