The second Friday of July is National French Fry Day!!!

The origin of french fries is uncertain, although the practice of frying strips of potatoes dates back to the 1600s in Belgium, when river fish were scarce during the winter months. The term "french" fry refers to the potatoes being "frenched" into long strips...it's not a reference to the nation of France. French fries made their American debut in the early 20th century when soldiers encountered them during WW1.

The origins of National French Fry Day are uncertain, starting somewhere in the 1990s in the United States.
