Journal of a Perennial Optimist (again)

I finished my first week on the rice diet, and I am so tired of rice, but enjoying the fruit. This week adds back some vegetables along with the fruit and rice. I think I need a day or two break, and then will go back to, since I am feeling good, and have starting losing weight again.
The weather is cooling down, so we seem to be heading into fall here in Alabama, and I had coffee this morning, milk and all. I only have one cup, and do not drink all of that most days; so it is not like I am having very much milk.

Yesterday was probably our last day of being able to be in the swimming pool, and it looks like I will be able to start going outside and doing some fall yardwork now. We have lots of thos big yellow garden spiders this year ! They are all over with their giant webs out in the back yard, and also a few out front, way more than we usually see in the fall. They are going to have to move somewhere away from where I want to do yardwork, for sure.

Okay, so an addition to this morning’s post about the rice diet. I have started watching some of the fruitarian YouTube videos, and I really like this guy who changed his whole life and health around by changing his diet.
He eats mainly raw fruits, he said about 80% raw fruit, and has lost a lot of weight, and also his aches and pains from arthritis. His channel is called Fruit 4 Life.

Since I am not enthused about the plain rice, I actually have started eating mostly the fresh fruits, and just adding some rice if I do not feel full enough with just fruit.
I have started losing weight again, slowly like before, but the scale is moving mostly in the right direction. Since fruit does not need salt, I am not even missing that now.
If I do eat rice, I mix it with some fruit and cinnamon, and that works fine for me. Or I eat a rice cake, which I find satisfying.

So, today, we stopped at IHOP and had brunch, which we have not done for a long time now.
I enjoyed it, but after we got back home and I was doing stuff around the house, I noticed that my back was crumpled up and I was hurting and hobbling around.
I went outside, and when I did that, my feet were so swollen, I could barely fit into my shoes.
It obviously did not take me long to feel the effects of my breakfast !

Now, I am even more encouraged to keep following this eating plan, and I have ordered a whole case of the Ida Red apples that I love. I really like Red Rome apples, but we can’t get them here in stores. The place where I get the bulk foods (peaches, etc) now has fall apples and they have the Ida Reds, which are similar to the Rome apples, but smaller.

This is a longish video, but he explained how he got started with being a fruitarian, what it has done for him healthwise, and pictures of how his health has changed.

It has been SO HOT here this summer, we have just been having fruit for meals a lot anyway, so this just added on to what I was already doing. I will also be eating salads and some vegetables for one meal in the day, and not trying to have a cup of rice 3 times a day.
I have been making fresh fruit juice in the big blender, and I have that over ice, lots of ice, and that keeps me from needing to eat as much too, and I enjoy it.

I take an apple, banana, carrot, pineapple juice and add 2-3 cups of water and blend it, and that makes over a quart of juice, which I refrigerate, and then add about 2/3 of a cup over ice and drink it slowly over the day.
I was not sure if I would do this for more than a week when I started, but now that I have progressed to step 2, and adding veggies to the fruit, and cutting out most of the rice, i am going to go for another week.

It seems I lose weight on any major change in diet that I make. But I yo yo eventually. The diet that worked the best for me was the healthy keto diet--I could stay on that the longest too. But I tripped and fell off of it too. Diet should not be just for losing weight but for gaining health. Lots of aspects we need to watch at our age.

I was able to do low carb/keto before, but now I do not do well on it at all, and have lost my taste for most meat, although I still love cheese, and most dairy. I discovered that for the A+ blood type, we are supposed to have a vegetarian diet, so maybe that is part of the reason I am able to adapt to it.
After i tried the Starch Solution, in complete desperation, and discovered it actually worked for me, I started doing more with vegetables and less with animal proteins.
With the kidney and heart failure, less protein is better for me right now anyway.
