Is Maine FULL Of Bostonian Losers Or what?

Geeze, as if Platner was weird enough. Look at the gaggle of goons vying to replace him. Sheesh, a young fat stoner in a dress somehow collecting on Medicare? And that might be the best choice on offer there.

Sadly, why would truly good leaders fight to get elected to a Congress that is futile. They don't do what their electors actually want, like 80% wanting the Save Act. Eventually most of our elected officials get bought. The foxes are in the hen house and legitimate people can't fix it.

I don't generally rise to defend Democrats, but it's only fair to acknowledge that these were the lowest-tier Democrats vying for the spot, with the exception of Shenna Bellows, who came off a lot dumber than I thought she was. Ashley Webb would have my vote, however. She's better than Saturday Night Live was back when SNL was good.

As it turns out, Troy Jackson, the guy the Democrats came up with to replace the guy with the Nazi tattoo, fathered two children with his cousin.

Democratic polling has probably determined, truthfully, that Mainers respond positively to candidates who don't appear to be groomed for the position, so they have groomed prospective candidates to appear not groomed for the position. Platner wasn't a guy who decided that he wanted to be a U.S. Senator; Democrats did a search for someone who could play the part of an "anyman," who might appeal to Mainers, who are looking for a candidate who is gruff, who doesn't always say the right thing in a polished manner, and who appears to be a grassroots candidate. Before things got too crazy with Platner, there were plenty of Republicans who might have been willing to vote for him, given that Collins is not well-liked by regular Republicans, particularly in the northern District 2.

An oyster farmer checked the right boxes. Who could be more of a Mainer than an oyster farmer? However, Platner worked one summer for a small oyster farm operation, and his mommy bought it for him the next year, and he got himself elected harbormaster. Mom, who owns a restaurant, was his only customer, and now that he's out of politics, it's up for sale.

Troy Jackson comes from far northern Maine. Identified as a logger, another traditional Maine occupation, he has been in Maine politics since 1998 and has been all over the place politically. He first ran for office as a Republican, but didn't win (the office he ran for included Fort Kent, Madawaska, and Caribou, a small pond of blue in the otherwise mostly red District 2, given that there is a college in Fort Kent and another in Caribou, along with a large population of French Canadians, who tend to be Democrats). He then ran as an Independent and was elected to the Maine House, becoming a Democrat shortly after. After three terms, he was elected to the Maine Senate as a Democrat, and has served as Minority Leader, Majority Leader, and Senate President. In 2014, he lost a primary election to run against Susan Collins, and ran in the Democratic primary for Governor this year, coming in third. He is now endorsed by the Democratic Socialists of America, and, while he had previously opposed LGBTQ rights, he now supports the entire Democratic-Socialist agenda. Basically, he would be willing to be whoever he needed to be in order to win an election.
