Invasive AI

I was thinking that my car has THREE active "listeners"... the native Honda voice commands, the infotainment system is google-based so it uses "Hey Google", then Apple CarPlay makes sure that Siri is on the alert. No conversations ANYWHERE are private any longer.

I hope my television lasts a while longer. There are very few brands out there that do not record your conversations and/or your viewing and browsing habits. Hence the need for Data Centers. It's all gotta be stored and analyzed somewhere.

This is insane.

Just imagine how simple it's going to be for AI to totally re-write the history of the human race. Once we old people die off, there will be no one willing (or able) to challenge any historical 'accounts.'

That said, most of ancient history could already be a fictional account. Everything I know about history that preceeded my existence I have learned from reading books. Did the authors make up stuff to suit themselves??

I agree with you on this. Even the old photographs we see online do not make much sense. Why would a photographer travel all the way out to some poor farmers place just to take a picture of their tumble down shack and barefooted kids ? It took a professional to take photos back then, and if this was how most of the country looked, why bother taking pictures of it ?
I think that there is a lot we have been misinformed about, but it is hard to tell what the true history is.

Many years ago I was at a function with the owner/editor of a small town newspaper. I don’t remember how we got on the subject of news items and they often become “somewhat embellished.”

He gave me this one sentence of wisdom that I have never forgot:

“Freedom of the Press Belongs ToThose Who Own It—-“.

Probably the most profound statement I have ever been told——

********

Setting that aside, today I saw a news clip about a man who was slowly being eaten away by ALS. He had long since lost his ability to speak. An old clip was found of his real voice and was given to someone who was able to clone it with AI. The result was that he was able to cp minicate in a voice that was “his” —- especially wonderful to allow his grandchildren to hear him speak.

Thennnnnn there’s the ongoing lawsuits regarding AI using popular singers voices to make its own songs.

There’s good and bad to many things in life. IMHO, AI is likely the one thing that will soon be far out of control,

We have a historical village here with buildings brought from all over Wisconsin. The museum holds pictures donated by families of area farms, families...

Have you played with AI at all? I've not. I think Musk has one to compete with Wiki. I think I read that his activity has already outpaced Wiki's...although that could just be the novelty of newness.
Grokipedia. Most of the subjects I've tried to look up on Grokipedia, it didn't have, while Wikipedia did, although I'm sure it will grow.

I've wondered the same thing. I have thought the hard-copy word to have veracity merely because it cannot be changed once published. But there are lots of books out there that are full of inaccuracies, although I think the number was fewer in the past.

It is infuriating if you are of a curious mind, yet cannot fully trust most sources without researching the author first and knowing what biases--if any--the author has.

Wikipedia was a great idea, and they even thought ahead to try to forestall bias with its neutral voice rules. However, once Wikipedia became hugely popular and relied upon as the last word in many arguments, the agenda people couldn't keep their hands off of it. Today, while I don't doubt that those at the top of Wikipedia consider their decisions to correspond to the organization's neutral stance, they are mostly leftists, and those with differing political biases are generally not allowed to advance to the upper levels, so their biases feel objective and neutral to them. For example, I have been a Wikipedia editor for a couple of decades, but I don't even have a vote when they call for one. I was hoping that Grokipedia might focus on facts rather than indoctrination, but it's too early to see.
