I took part of a shorthand course once but never finished; still I learned enough of it to learn a few shortcuts that I've used ever since.

It was mandatory pass/fail for the school year. It frustrated the teachers that I had no problem typing my dictation while not following the protocol of split note pages and such.
AI sent an email to the FBI from the user's account without asking:

The issues are:
-Data Centers are invading our neighborhoods and will cause power shortages and increased electricity rates, in addition to water issues in the rural locales they are being set up in (we are all on wells drawing from the same aquifers.) Bill Gates used to be rabidly against nuclear power and now he's suddenly in favor of it because of his data center power needs. Makes informed people be mistrustful of their application because B.G. is not trustworthy.
-Data Centers are noisy. They disrupt lives and wildlife on a ton of levels. (But so does a lot of modern life.)
-The Surveillance State is growing, and AI/Data Centers are a key tool in that endeavour
-Many employers are having their staff train AI in how they do their jobs, supposedly as their replacements. Results are not good, and this is being pulled back a bit. Some folks have been rehired after their AI replacements failed. But they got fired in the first place...the intent is clear.
-The fear/mistrust of AI is being used as a political tool. The fear may be valid or it may be fabricated, or it may be both, but Federal politicians are fanning the flames heading into the midterms.
Then there's the misunderstanding of AI versus Large Language Models, but in the real world I think that's a distinction without a difference.
I agree. Our government will prioritize the electrical and water needs of data centers over those of citizens. I would guess that they won't openly subject citizens to outages or shortages due to this, but these outages will be attributed to something else.
I attend the annual meetings for my electric co-op. A couple of years ago we were put on notice to expect higher rates and rolling brownouts when data centers go online (and they are being built here.) I'm not an expert, but the way it was put is that some states lack the means of production to create sufficient power, and they lack the carrying capacity to import and distribute sufficient power to where it's needed.
This is just the mechanical side of AI, not the concerns over "How will government use it against me?"

It sounds like existing big players are pursuing a game of regulatory capture to squelch future competition.
They seem to be using the model that worked with COVID and climate alarmism. Sanders wants Global AI Accords sign on to in Europe.
