A patient portal I was supposed to sign up for included this phrase. Perhaps they all do, but you are basically signing an agreement that the owners of the portal can do anything they choose to or with your information, and it is your obligation to monitor the agreement as they change it. Your health info could be posted on Facebook or X.

By using Patient Portal you are agreeing to be bound by these terms and conditions of use, which may be changed by us at any time. Your continued use constitutes your consent to be bound by any modifications or changes to the terms and conditions, and it is your obligation to periodically visit this page of the website and review the latest version of the terms and conditions.

Anybody else find this to be interesting?
 
I do not see how a medical doctor or hospital could be posting any of a person’s medical information online on Facebook, or other social media, and actually not on any kind of a website . The HIPPA laws should forbid any of that. I think that they might change their terms or conditions, but I don’t think that any of it should invade a patient’s privacy.
I didn’t see anything even referring to doing that on what you posted, @Don Alaska , so what did you read that made you think they intended to be able to post private medical information in a public website or social media ?

Most portals are not operated by thee medical facilities. They are private contractors. I didn't see anything that led me to believe that anyone would do that, but by agreeing to the terms you are possibly giving them permission to do the posting and that would bypass any HIPPA restrictions since you are giving them implicit permission to do whatever they change the "rules" to be.

Maybe specific to one company, or people just don't read the permissions they are signing. A lot of folks just agree to the permissions without reading them. I try to avoid portals for thee very reason that the health information then somewhat becomes public knowledge. Usually no harm is done, but what ever is on the internet is somewhat public. I dealt with thee other end of things--putting data into the portal--and I was uncomfortable then too. In many cases, mine too, my insurance company (BC/BS) puts my information onto a website when they pay the bills.

Some of it is certainly shared, but they ask for a redo for two main reasons: 1) to give the populace the impression that it is not shared and that their data is secure, and 2) as a confirmation that you don't give different data and information to different providers/clinics/hospitals.

A good bit of this started with Obamacare that you may have heard me complain about before. Obamacare undid a good bit of the privacy that was provided by HIPPA that was passed under Clinton. The purpose of Obamacare was twofold: 1) to eventually put private insurance in the U.S. out of business by making it too expensive for most people to afford, and 2) to make it easier to track practices and clinics as well as the clients who went to them for service/care. You may have noticed that many small doctor's offices closed, merged, or were sold and a lot of physicians retired or moved into government (state or federal) in the year or two after Obamacare passed. The Feds wanted fewer, and larger practices so that tracking would be easier.

As an example, we went to a state office here, and they made us fill out all these forms by hand all the while forms were being printed in the background with the information already on them, including my wife's cell phone number which she didn't provide yesterday (They already had it). The forms could have been filled out from data they already had, but they made us go through the motions to give us the impression that they did not already have all the info (and probably a good deal more). AI also makes all this easier for them to compile and analyze.
 
I couldn't care less if my high cholesterol numbers are on the internet for all to see. I just don't want anyone having access to my Medicare benefits, insurance coverage, or my bank account because I wrote them a check in 2012.

I have two patient portal accounts with "MyChart" and they are always hounding me to combine them. One is my PCP health record and the other is MD Anderson with all my cancer-related information. I don't really care if all that stuff is combined, but I'm not bothered that it remains separate, either.

I do like the convenience of a portal and I'd never not have them. Earlier today I was scanning all the minutia of my recent blood work, and having it create comparison graphs from previous years. I wouldn't want to do that with Excel.

I am so mad I could poop a gold brick!
I got a email to sign up for patient portal from the rheumatologist office. I really did not want to have to do that,as not sure I will have need of them again. But got another email saying I had message, so I went thru the whole process, only to find nothing I did not already know. I sent message,got another email saying that had to manually put in test results, yet they sent me lab report to download. It was from 6/23/26 not 7/28/26! WTH is that for? I tried to get back into system and now will not accept my sign in.
What happened to at least a nurse calling to give info?
I get the feeling also that I am not being told what all is really wrong with me- from anybody. Info I read is always wrong. Says never was a smoker - wrong- hello- CHF almost nine years ago. I see errors all the time.
So much concern over my kidneys, but no one ever addresses that. What can I do to improve them? I have blockages in both
and have for years. Plus if I am such a heart attack risk, due to previous blood work, then why would this doctor recommend me skipping the Lipitor for a bit to see if other problem lessens?
I am just frustrated with all this crap. My Bp is not helping anything either.Damn doctors and nurses do not even take Bp correctly anyway. Sorry I am on rant.

I sympathize @Hedi Mitchell. Somewhere along the line there was an entry that I was a two pack a day smoker for 50 years, when I never smoked cigarettes at all. I don't know where that came from, but I suspect it was an entry form someone else's record with a similar birth date or name.

G, when you cool down, look on the login page for "forgot my password" or something similar. Let them send you a password reset to your email. My patient portal (MyChart) has an assistance phone number listed on the login page. Sorry you are having a frustrating experience.

that is just it.. my log in and pw are correct.. I am calling them tomorrow though
 
I got another message from the Rheumatologist office- I had to sign thru Google this time, which took me to a
3rd party whatever patient site. All these messages they sent me were a copy of my DL, Medicare info, Address and other known useless info. There was a result of the thyroid test, no comments just nbrs. which am pretty sure was ok on that end. But nothing about the muscle blood test work . I deleted the acct. I have asked twice via their site before to call me, and they have not. The doctor was right about two things- yes it has to be the Lipitor, and yeah I have no reason to ever grace your office again!
I suggest my GP does not hackle me over my Lipitor reduction, or he might need a doctor.
I just ., I wanna climb the roof top and yell... KISS MY GRITS! ( keeping it clean for others):poop::mad:
 
I was telling my GP's nurse that if they started recording exams for AI to write the summary, it might be my chance to drive the narrative and get accurate stuff posted to my record.
