WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02), Chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, Congressman Gus Bilirakis (FL-12), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade, and Congressman Vern Buchanan (FL-16) applauded House passage of H.R. 139, the Sunshine Protection Act, which makes daylight saving time permanent.
If this passes the Senate and is signed into law, this would be excellent. I am sick of changing times every six months.

I think that most of the people would be happy not to have to go through the twice a year time change anymore. The main problem seems to be that about half of the people who have input about this want DST and the other half want regular Standard Time to be the official time, so no matter which one they choose to do permanently, people are going to complain.
Personally, I like DST and the longer afternoon/evening daylight; so I am hoping that the bill makes it through the Senate as well and becomes permanent. I would be happy either way of it just didn’t have to change every six months, back and forth.

About time!

Oregon voted years ago to stop the change, but voters were denied their victory until California and Washington got on board. They did and then it was Congress has to approve it. This must have been 20 years ago. I bet if the Senate approves it, it still won't happen until the UN approves it. Maybe wait till Zelensky approves it. I hope he dresses for the occasion this time. :ROFLMAO:

In any case, had this been done 50 years ago, Rojo might have lived to a ripe old age.

From my archives, Dust in the Wind.

The geniuses that started this Daylight Savings Time, certainly weren't ranchers or farmers. Try explaining the hour difference to the cows lined up for morning hay after the rooster crows the same time as the day before, while rancher Faye is trying to adjust to the change so other elements of life that depend on the clock, can be timely.

On more than one pre Thanksgiving dinner, I had chicken and dumplings. It was a hassle getting out the pressure cooker, but no one promised that ranch life would be easy. Rojo Red, made his final mistake by inciting the cows to bellow, goats to scream bloody murder, barn cats to break out in an off key chorus, and the dogs barking for no reason. Crow if he wants, but inciting rebellion and creating chaos, was inexcusable.

Good morning to all-

I don't care whether we go Standard Time or Daylight Savings Time- just make it ONE time.

When I was teaching, those time changes were very tough on the kids- having to get up an hour earlier and an hour later. People are most certainly creatures of habit, and just an hour change in the day's schedule can really throw a lot of people off.

Let it be the quick or the dead- just make it one time for all.

you all be safe and keep well- Ed

That's an interesting point. I wonder if Congress is really moving to make DST permanent, or if there's still debate on which will get locked in. There were talks of splitting the difference and making a one time 30 minute adjustment.

Here in Arizona there is no Daylight Stupid Time;)
Do Apple and Samsung watches not automatically adjust twice a year when you live in Arizona? If they do, I believe you have no way to override it. And if they don't, do they change when someone enters/leaves the state? Inquiring minds want to know.

According to the synopsis, there was only one dissenting vote. It didn't say who that was.
Politico (and the NY Times) says the final vote was 308-117. Twenty two Republicans and ninety three Democrats opposed it. Agriculture state lawmakers are especially wary of delaying daylight for farmers [I don't think they understand how the Earth rotates], while others fear the extra hours of darkness in the morning would pose risks to mental health, public safety and sleep habits. Others voiced concern over kids going to school in the dark.

This one was put forth as a stand-alone proposition so as to prevent push-back against unrelated riders. I think that's part of your "One Nay vote" synopsis, Ken. The Sunshine Protection Act was included in the Motor Vehicle Modernization Act, which passed out of the Committee by a vote of 48 yeas to 1 nay. So maybe it got detached from this.

Politico also said that it likely will not even come up for a vote in the Senate. It will be blocked by Republican leadership. "Lots of division in the country on this issue." In 2020, the Senate passed it while the House did not. (I think they're screwing with us.)

I just read this:

"Apple Watches automatically adjust to the local time zone when not connected to an iPhone."

And iPhones are driven by the time zone you set them up for.

Alaska voters have been clamoring for this for a long time. We used to have 4 time zones in the state and that was changed to 2 by a Progressive governor some time ago. We are told every year that we will get a lot fewer tourists if we do not comply with the switch, so I guess Hawaii and Arizona don't get any tourists. How sad is that? I think they don't want to confuse the publicly-educated bureaucrats in Washington state who wouldn't understand if Alaska didn't stay one hour behind them.
