Home owners Insurance

Everything is increasing and so I'm cancelling or modifying things. I seen on Facebook that there is an app that could reduce homeowner's insurance premiums to as low as 30.00 a month if you are a senior and a homeowner. The intro states that every insurance company should be notifying qualifying customers of this. I haven't and has any one else been notified?

When I see ads or posts like this I immediately think it's a scam.

I've been considering modifying my homeowner's insurance so my premiums can be reduced. Are you happy with your carrier?

We have ours combined with our car insurance, so we get the special rate for it being a package deal. Since the house does not belong to us, we just have renters insurance, but I think that homeowners would work the same way. The best deal I found was with AAA, and we have had that for several years.
We just had to have the truck repaired, and got the AAA discount for that, too.

I have never heard of having Insurance for only $30. 00 a month. Something smells fishy with that amount coverage. All of our insurance is combined; home, autos, and boat. We also have "umbrella" coverage, which a lot of people are going too. Insurance is too high and keeps going up every year. We save by combining and paying our insurance once a year instead semiannually.

We live in Harris County TX and both homeowners' and vehicle insurance are ridiculously high. Due to hurricanes and floods, many people here are unable to get homeowner's policies. A lot of the big carriers started canceling coverage after Hurricane Harvey.

We have had Allstate for over 30 years and I tried shopping around; an independent agent was unable to find any company that would write new policies so we are pretty much stuck.

I am not aware of any company offering senior discounts.

When we had dogs and livestock, there was only one company that would insure us. At one point, they demanded we increase our coverage or they would cancel us. We began shopping, and found another that would handle us. We've never had any claim on any homeowner's insurance. Several companies won't handle our home as it is not visible from a paved road...even though we are only a couple blocks from a big fire station. Of course a house on our road burned down because that multi-million dollar station was not staffed on Sundays. It is now staffed on weekends. We think the house fire was arson by a scammer who "owned" the house but was in foreclosure by the VA.

It's crazy, isn't it? Last year I shopped around and found the same thing. I ended up adding my auto insurance with my homeowner's insurance carrier. The discounts proved that I made the right decision. I have until April for renewal for my house so I have time to think on options.

My total homeowner's premium is $1,529. That's with a $5000 deductible. It was higher than that before I increased the deductible. It's ridiculous. But they say that if my house was to be destroyed; it would cost $300,000 to rebuild it like it is. Our homeowner's insurance is so high because of those millionaire homes on the coast. Every time a hurricane destroys them, they raise our premium. Pisses me off.

We used to bundle auto with our homeowner's at Allstate, but a couple of years ago (after another Allstate rate increase) I contacted The Hartford and got a much better deal on our car insurance. The Hartford offers discounted rates to AARP members and it was a substantial savings.

Oddly though, they could not offer a deal on our homeowners coverage (or didn't want to write the policy so priced it high) so we left that with Allstate. So in our case, "bundling" was not the cheaper option.

Is that for a year?? Ours is about $6,000/yr since we are in a hurricane zone.

We bundle home/vehicles/life and some odds and ends. No claim in over 20 years and yes, an annual increase.
Neighbor's house burned down when his son cleaned up spent fireworks and pushed the trash can close to the garage.

I used to gripe about our homeowners insurance but in 2017 a hail storm hit the area and I got new roofs for hubby's house my barn and farm house--all tear offs and the barn needed all new underlayment. $30,000 just for the barn.
I didn't have the metal pole buildiing done because it would have upset the animals. They gave me credit for my deductible for that But now I am sorry because the roof leaks.
Premiums are not up yet.

Having to deal with the insurance with all the details really revealed to me my lack of knowledge about homeowners insurance in general as well as for me. My coverage is coming up for renewal the end of this month and I received the notice which shows an increase on the premium. The only thing that changed was the replacement cost on the dwelling. So I googled it to understand hoping to understand why the increase. Answer: Rising costs of materials.

I did discover that there are two options to consider that I wasn't aware and wasn't told about or asked. The Replacement vs Actual Costs the difference being the amount of the premium one would pay. I've been thinking about this because my house is now is over 100 years old.

Call me suspicious, but I'd think for $30 a month, you'd only be insured against the Space Shuttle landing on your house.

A funny story: a friend told me that her mother started paying 10 cents a week for a life insurance on her husband. After paying for years and years, he died and she found out it only paid off if he was hit and killed by a streetcar.

We have the kid and caboodle bundled. Why can I not drop full coverage on my truck only? It gets three months to the tank and runs around 18oo a year on insurance.

I am pretty happy with our insurance. It is about 1200 a year for the house and about that for the farm. I was grumpy that they charge us for a separate garage when ours is attached. I complained and their answer was 'But you've been paying that for 20 years!' They did not take the added garage off. But we had a hail storm that affected all of our roofs-- houses, barn, pole building--all had needed and got tear off roof replacement. I decided at the end not to get the pole building done because it would upset all the animals and I had nowhere else to put them considering fencing. They let that cover the deductibles, then. Now I wish I had done it, though, because it caused a lot of leaks. Thus response to 'disaster' is good which is very important.
Our cars are bundled.

Good Grief! Our homeowners, auto, boat, and umbrella insurance increased way too much again this year! I hear that has increased again because of a lot of fraud on all the home roof claims that people turn in after a big storm that did not do any damage. Roofers go around and tell people that they have damage from a storm, hoping to get a job; this time or the next. People then turn damage estimates into their insurance companies. They take the money and not replace the roof. They end up replacing the roof after the next big storm rolls through. Money in hand to pay the deductible next time, and a little cash in the pocket. These type of people and business's make it hard on all of us, when they cheat.
