Robert Cray played at the Blues by the Bay Festival in Eureka several times while I lived there. I saw his show every time he came to town. It was held in a place on Humboldt Bay called Halvorsen Park, and on a bluff across the street, sitting up about 40 feet or so higher than the park was the county library. Behind it there was a sidewalk, overlooking the bluff. For people who didn't have tickets, that spot offered a great free pass to the Festival. It was as if you were about 200 feet from the stage in the nose bleed seats. You did have to bring your own seats though. I downloaded this photo from the local newspaper website, it must have been taken from a small plane. The place where I was is strait across the street from the large tree. There was an excellent view from there, and of course, at that close it was loud and proud. Great shows!

He's still touring...and he's older than both of us. I bet I've been listening to him for 40 years or so. A friend from Atlanta turned me on to him.
That festival looks like a blast.
