Do you ever have random words pop into your mind?

I do. I was standing at the kitchen sink washing dishes a few days ago and the word Senegal popped into my mind. I don't remember ever hearing that word, so I binged it. Turns out it's a country in Africa.

I also found that they just passed a law against gays.

Senegal,[d] officially the Republic of Senegal,[e] is the westernmost country in West Africa, situated along the Atlantic Ocean coast.

Senegal’s New Harsher Anti-LGBTQ Law
Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has signed into law a sweeping amendment to the country’s Penal Code that doubles the maximum prison term for same-sex sexual acts to 10 years and introduces new penalties for anyone who promotes or finances homosexuality.

Ten years in prison for loving the unacceptable person? WOW!

Homosexuality especially among males is strongly frowned upon in most of Africa. It is also quite dangerous in practice. When an African doctor was asked why AIDS is primarily a heterosexual disease in Africa and a primarily a homosexual disease in the West, he replied, "That is so because Gay men usually die from other diseases before they can contract develop AIDS." I think this is mostly a long-standing cultural issue and not related to "modern" religious practices, although Christianity frowns on it and Islam forbids it under penalties up to and including death under Sharia Law.

Conversely, in America, you can lose your job and--in some jurisdictions be charged with a hate crime--for refusing to embrace such things you disagree with. Your children can be taken away from you.
