Thanks John, I now took the time to read the article which is very good at explanation of some get higher raise and other won't. Of course I can't say that's fair but they've figured a way (most likely) to cheat beneficiaries out of their true amount. I know I can be cynical about these things. I don't think people the worked and made more money should be given any less than others, just a flat 8.7 etc. Of course our government is so deep in debt they will bound to be looking for how to dig our country out. Who knows for sure who will be affected and who won't.

I just wish people would do their own home-work and find out what we need to spend money on (meaning the government and our tax dollars) and what not to, idiots. Like America first to get dollars because if we get so broke, how are we supposed to help other countries. No common sense in leadership, or darn little.

From what I read, the only risk to having benefits reduced is a lack of funds in the system. Some articles are putting the year 2034 out there are the tipping point.

So "what the Fed really needs to spend its money on" has already been decided. All else is to be left to the states. If there are retirement programs or medicare-like programs or welfare programs it happens in the states. This has been turned on its head over time.

And you did what most of us do: you refer to "the government." The Fed is not supposed to be a daily part of our lives..."government" is state/county/city/town/local. Yet here we are (as Madison predicted) looking to the Fed as "government," because [predictable] it has encroached so as to eclipse everything else.

I don't think that the Constitution granted the leaders the power to operate an insurance business like Social Security. And that is what SSI is. But then it is deducted from workers' pay. Since it first started it has been amended into as much a welfare program as insurance.
But since congress decided to play Daddio to the whole world guess it doesn't matter.
America always had clinics and charities for the poor till the socialist took over our laws.

How did you get a 12% raise when the SS increase was 8.7%?

Yvonne and I got our increase in SS but I am of the opinion that it isn’t fair using a percentile system.

Yvonne worked as a housewife and mother of 3 for most of her wage earning years so she doesn’t even draw half of what I do.
Using the percentile system gives us both the same % of increase but not the same dollar amount so Yvonne’s raise was much less than mine.

I know that handing over the same dollar amount would put a larger dent in the total fund but it would, in my opinion, be a better way of doing things.

Have you looked into adding Yvonne to your SS account? My wife was added to mine and it significantly increased her SS without affecting mine at all. File for "spousal support".

What about cats !! 16 pounds of dry food was 16 dollars this morning. The price tag on the shelve was not up to date so I was over charged 5 dollars and some change with the tax. I was a bit surprised when I spent 68 dollars and all I had for myself to eat was a loaf of bread and a small container of butter, the rest was pain killers for my knees and household things like washing liquid and dish soap etc. The cats cost a lot today, I got a refund for that 5 bucks but used it to buy 3 cans of dog food, the stew stuff that has taters and carrots because those little cats love the stuff. :D

Yeah, she gets an extra C note every month but that’s kind of what I mean.
She doesn’t get a % of my SS but instead she gets a standing dollar amount which is how I believe the increases in SS should be handled.

My last kibble prices were $54.85 for 8 lbs, $46.40 for 15 lbs, and $21.08 for 3.5 lbs.

As far as Social Security goes, I'm glad that I have it. I wouldn't have voted for it, but since I paid into it throughout my working life, it comes in handy. I was never a math major but although this was a significant rise, I don't think that it kept up with the actual cost of living increases.

I'm still working, but if I were completely dependent on Social Security, I could survive, but I'd have to make a lot of cutbacks. Without Medicare, I probably wouldn't be able to, however.

When people say "the rich shouldn't get SS," my response is that even if I won the zillion-dollar power ball lottery I'd STILL draw SS. I didn't have any choice about paying INTO that system so I want my benefit. (And if Biden gets SS then why the hell shouldn't I??)
