A little News or No Social Media for Who?

Unfortunately it's human nature to look for the easy way out , which means why there are so many parents today who look for social media to babysit their kids.

Governments, especially in Europe, use "protecting children" as an excuse to restrict free speech and monitor access to the internet. It is one of those slippery slopes.
One other possible red flag that I thought of a couple of hours ago.
I believe it was back in 2018 or ‘19 when New Zealand banned guns.
Essentially, guns are the citizens’ insurance that freedom won’t be taken away.

Could be something or it could be nothing but with the issues I have concerning Trust, I’m betting against that the whole thing is just coincidence.

I always believed that there should be three subjects not to debate , that's is religion , politics and guns . Why ? Because people's minds are made up before the debate even begins hence the leading from debate to arguments . I will never understand why people bother with such debates. As far as guns go , you don't need them to have a gang , you don't need them to kill , you don't need them to steal and so on and on. If there were no guns , the human race can always find other ways to hurt ,mame and kill.

Some of the prepper channels are worried that the government is going to confiscate their gold and silver. They have their guns ready in case they try.

The U.S. is the ONLY democratic republic to last this long, and the first and second amendments are why. If we had become a democracy, it wouldn't have lasted a century. They never do. That is why the Founders chose to form a republic with separation of powers and different ways of establishing each branch. We destroyed the Senate when it went to direct election, and we destroyed the currency when the Federal Reserve was established. We can blame Woodrow Wilson in large part for both of those with help from his cronies. Those changes will limit the life of the republic.

It’s almost like being stuck between a rock and a hard place.

First off, I certainly do not want to give more power to ANY city, state or federal governments.
As it is, the combination of the three has taken a lot of power from the parents and teachers in regard to a kid’s upbringing which paints those same law making entities into a corner.
Instead of backing up and once again throwing the weight of teaching to parents and teachers complete with all the accountabilities that entails, for 3 generations it has allowed any and all types of social media to fill Johnny’s and Sally’s brain with trash which is why Johnny is hooked on mom’s Tide pods, has multiple pronouns and wants to get rid of his “personal equipment” because after all, he was born to be a girl. Let’s not Even get started on what Sally is leaning.

Problem is, the government can’t just tell parents and teachers to start doing their job complete with unlocking the woodshed because now, the generations that are raising the kids know nothing but the psycho-babble they’ve learned [from social media] which panders to a child’s whims and then calls it parenting and teaching”.

So, in a way, I kind of understand why New Zealand is banning Social Media for kids. If Momma, Daddy and the Teachers can’t teach and lock up the equipment, then someone has to.
Maybe without all the outside influences broadcast in 5G networks 24 hours a day, moms and dads will start relearning how to be real fathers and mothers.??
They think corporal punishment is abuse. I sure got my share of switching as did my kids. Not often because we knew what would happen if we disobeyed. I don't have one single scar from a switch, we also had chores to do.

1913 when we allowed a foreign private party to take over our financial system it was one of the nails in our coffin, if not the one.

Keeping the youngsters away from social media may help reduce the bullying problem. While I believe this belongs to parents and teachers to control, it appears, that they do not get involved in those situations, thus, the government takes over. Folks may bellyache about nanny governments, etc, but if we employed good parenting skills, this would not be necessary.

The suicide rate among our teens due to bullying is appalling, and my son, who is a bereavement counselor, has told me some of the saddest
stories of these situations ever. Either do your job parents, or the government will.

Lois I am always saying I feel sorry for the youth and the society we left for them.
A culture of weaklings and victims. We Boomers lost our morals along with our marbles.🙁
" If it feels good do it and "free love", nothing is free there is a price for everything.
Oops, another song,

I can appreciate that many parents don't have the awareness to pay close attention to what their kids are into. Even putting aside those who don't seem to even care, those who do care are often unable to win when it comes to a competition in technology with their children. I get that, but I have a harder time understanding when these same parents get irate and blame everyone but themselves, as if it's the government's job to keep their kids safe, law enforcement's job to police their children's behavior, or wholly the fault of a communication platform when their children use it to communicate with the wrong people.

Yes, we should have reasonable laws designed to make kids safer, but for the most part, we already have those. The police generally get involved after the harm has already been done. I don't think we can expect any more from them because parents are in a better position to monitor what their kids do than the police are, and if we give the police access to everything that could feasibly harm our children, they're not going to stop there. Tech companies have a responsibility to make reasonable efforts to keep children safe on their platforms. Still, it's unreasonable to expect them to be 100% effective in doing so.

Too often, the real problem is not that these entities aren't doing enough, but that they are doing all of the wrong things. Governments and government schools continuously undermine parental authority and condone, and even encourage, bad behavior in children.

Tech companies and other platforms are sometimes more interested in their profit margins than in maintaining safe platforms. Roblox, for example, is designed for children, yet it offers little more than lip service to keeping kids safe on its platform. They've been known to ban the people who report predatory behavior on their platform, and to have allowed a group within Roblox known as MAPS (minor-attracted-persons).

Everyone involved should take responsibility for keeping children safe and emotionally healthy, but parents should be at the forefront of this and supported when they make good-faith efforts to be responsible parents. Instead, the government too often undermines the authority of the parent while simultaneously holding them accountable when something goes wrong.

Well, another 14 yr. old girl either jumped or was pushed from an upper floor of the Chapin School in Manhattan. The Boomer Generation reminds me of the Lost Generation of the 20s. Sadly, with the onset of Vietnam, then the debacle of Afghanistan, it has spilled over into present day. Lots of anger and hate has entered the picture.

There is no quick fix to all the troubles and problems facing society today, but a greater effort at doing so would be appreciated. Go to Washington, D.C., enter the halls of our esteemed Capitol and the pace is frenetic, but little is accomplished. It is alarming that we vote into office people who do not respect our Constitution, and seem to find ways to make themselves rich.

Or learn how to write in cursive....
Or learn how to tell the time on a real clock, not a digital clock..
Or know how to use a rotary dial telephone..
Years ago I had a friend who observed that it won't be long before people have no idea what "clockwise" means. There's a video out there of someone trying to explain to a guy that "a quarter to 12" has nothing to do with money. The guy could not grasp the concept. I guess if you asked him how long a football game lasts, he'd reply "One dollar."

Regarding oversight for children...I've long observed that the portable transistor radio was the first technology where kids were accessible outside of the supervision of their parents.

I think part of the problem with kids and technology is that when the government or schools, parents, etc., take something that kids like away, they find something to replace it with before whatever is being taken away is even gone. Once they know that they can do pretty much anything they want to, there will be no stopping them. Adults forget (or just don't care) that kids learn from adults, even when they don't want to.

IMO - 1. People marry for dumb ass reasons now days, and marriage is not what it use to be.
2. Having kids before your grown yourself always causes issues
3. Parents in general are more concerned for their careers than their families.
4. Physically attacking a child is not the same thing,as correcting them with perhaps a bottom swat.
5 Kids do not have enough to do,as chores around the house and yard. Except in certain cases , why should they get paid, we do not get paid to pick up after them, and etc.
6. if not religion, then at least solid principles of life - one being there are consequences to everything - it is up to each individual to weigh the pro and cons, of their next movement
7. Social media is not for children. they are too influenced by the wrong people
Just a few of me thoughts on the subject.
