1970s Stagflation Days

Politics and economics and culture clashes aside, what do we remember about the hard times (at least for some) during the 1970s?

Sure, we had gas lines and stations running out, even/odd license plate number gas purchase days... but can you recall other things? Stuff that would be oddball today? Or carried on until this day?

Two items that come to me right now are grocery items.

One was called "Vitaburger" here. It was a 50-50 blend of hamburger beef and "textured soy protein." Anybody else recall any such "extended meat" products from the time?

Another was store aisles stocking "generic" products in white packages with plain black printing. Boxed mac'n'cheese, ground coffee, sugar, flour, canned goods, waxed paper, toilet paper, laundry soap, even beer.

What other daily experiences can we remember from that decade of price rises and pay stagnation? Was there anything you personally made out really well on in those years?

I remember that the gas prices and pollution concerns began the transition from leaded gas and made small cars more interesting.

There were things like Gremlins, Vegas, Pintos, and even VWs rose a bit in popularity. Some of those didn't work out well. Pintos and Vegas are still kind of meme jokes today.

We also saw the early introduction of Japanese cars ramp up. Toyota, Honda, Datsun, probably others I forgot.

We had the tag days and switched cars. No funny food as the garden offered lots of produce including potatoes and there were several large fruit trees. Meat was never a big deal anyway.
Our first house in the US was a mortgage assumption for 10%. Thank you FIL, a former banker, who did not say a word. Shortly there after we refinanced.
I drove a GMC Sierra and SO some two seater fart cart. 1500 and 750 Vulcans:) gosh do I miss those highway recliners.
