Pain Relief

I don't really have enough experience to recommend anything. My wife finds that liquid preparations were the most effective for her and I am trying the same. @Yvonne Smith may have a recommendation as to a specific brand.

This brand is what we are currently using.
I just use MSM powder that I get from Amazon. I add it to my protein drink or a smoothie, but you can add it to juice or water, and you can also get the tablets instead.

Has anyone tried the combination OTC pain pills? I see that Advil and Aleve both have pills that combine 125 Mg Ibuprofen and 250 Mg Acetaminophen per dose. I'm going to order the Advil ones and see how they work as a sub for Naproxen. Apparently these have been around for a few years now but I'm late to the party.

Isn't Exedrin a combination of aspirin and tylenol?

Waiting for Oncologist appointment.
Finally got a referral to oncologist, will call tomorrow to set appointment.
That is great to hear! Hopefully your doc put it in as an urgent referral. Start writing down every question or concern as you think of them. Glad you feel like posting and hope your pain is getting easier to manage. Hugs!

That is great news, @Marie Mallory , and I hope that they can now give you proper medications that will help with the pain, since they know what is causing it.
Went tyo er 'again' today, to see if they could give me Morphine, after we left it was another script for hydrocodone..
Rumor has it that morphine is best for cancer pain in elderly.
This is frustrating.
Not just bone cancer but bone cancer on the spine bone in at least 2 places. Survival rate is not good so why worry about addiction!!

I would think that they would take both the age and the survival rate into consideration when giving pain medication to people with cancer, I can see that with the illegal drug epidemic that they have to be careful about just handing out addictive drugs, but taking care of seniors who are in pain should be an exception to any kind of rules.

I am glad that they are finally getting you to see a regular oncologist, and hopefully, that will help a lot, since they can give you something for pain. I think any of it is going to mess with your head, but it is going to be a trade off between pain and having a dizzy head.
Sending hugs, and you and Jake are in our prayers.

Marie rumor and internet are not the best physicians to rely on. You have an oncology appointment which is an important step into an actual treatment plan which should replace these trips to ER/doc in the box and the resulting medication cocktail.
Please bring a very detailed list of medications (prescribed when and by whom, dosage, reactions) and everything else you are taking and doing. No sugar coating, no I am tough, no head in the sand! You have people who care about you! Please care about them by standing up and demanding proper treatment.

Thank you Marie. I don't take the meds much at all, they do nothing for pain but do have side effects that make it worse to deal with.
Last night I did take a Gabapentin along with the only thing so far that stops pain for a few hours, Tylenol.
I have lots of Hydro, Ibuprofen, tramadol.Muscle relaxers ,etc, yet I only take Tylenol ,the only one that stops pain.
I went to a few docs yesterday chasing Morphine. So far no morphine.
We read that morphene is the one best for elderly, les sode efects..

Yvonne can you or Ken combine these threads or just keep one up? We didn't realize how 2 or 3 is not a good idea,

Are you discussing this during your medical visits? Morphine has a plethora of side effects. Again, please discuss this with your medical providers. They need to justify the prescription.

My primary care doc is a sweet lady but she too is going thru some mental issues, crying telling me her provlems. But she is ok even if a little nuts.
She finally referred me to oncologist when doc at Urgent Care called her and told her to do so.
The medical field ain't what it use to be.
