What Are You Doing Today?

Well, I have often wished I could enjoy 3 things once again before I cash in my chips:
1. A glass of Merlot - I can still drink it, but I can no longer taste or enjoy it. It's just a memory.
2. A fine cigar - Maybe an Arturo Fuente Hemingway - Given my lung and heart conditions, I'd probably have to call 9 1 1 before I finished.
3. The love of a good woman - No need to call 9 1 1, it's too late
you have good sense of humor !

Finally got off of my butt and started getting things cleaned up for loads of firewood. Did some of it Wednesday and more today. I've procrastinated and let stuff pile up, and let my wood supply run low. I usually get 2 years worth of wood on my racks, but last year was consistently cold all the way through March, and one of my firewood guys had a stroke. (Had I refilled when I normally do, he would have still been available to get me a couple of loads...not that I don't feel bad for the guy.)

Managed to go on a 15 minute walk this evening, and now I'm watching Army football. My son graduated from West Point in the 80s, so they are my second favorite team. Go Army!

Update: Army wins 38-35 with a last second field goal. Yippee
Did you stay up for the Air Force/Wyoming game? Wyoming's quarterback is one heck of a runner, and Air Force shot themselves in the foot with a ton of penalties.

Thursday I went to the courthouse to renew the tags on my Saturn & F-150. License plates are the cheapest necessity to purchase in this state — $59 for both of them.

Made a vet appointment for November 10th for both horses. My senior fella is on daily pain meds, due to leg injuries from his show jumping days when I didn’t own him.. The vet didn’t see him for this last refill but he will need to for the next refill.

The Arab isn’t mine but he’s had tooth issues since he came here two years ago, so I made the appointment for him. His teeth are bad enough that I will scrounge up the money if his owner doesn’t come through.

Friday I cloroxed the horses (4) 16 gallon water tubs and refilled them. Wiped me out for the day, used to be I could scrub out two 150 gallon tubs and go on to the next big barn task - not anymore.

Saturday - my job jar is full. Plenty of “need to’s” to pick from — inside, outside, in the barn. What was the word @John Brunner used? Ah yes —-“procrastinate”. I have done a stellar job of that over this brutality hot summer; it going to be a bear playing catch-up🤯🤯

I think we are just resting up today ! This has been a traumatic few days for both of us, and we really needed a good night’s sleep last night. So, today is just going to be the usual household chores, and then a recuperation day for us.
Bobby is going to be doing inner ear research (he really does NOT want to end up in that hospital again, and I do not want him to, either), and I am going to pet my purring kitty cats and knit some socks.

My oldest daughter is still here. We have been eating out a lot. Yesterday I piled the girls into the car and took a lovely fall drive up to High Cliffs state park. I had intended to go to Devil's Lake but this was substantially closer. Still has hiking trails, rock formations, Indian mounds, a big lake for vistas...
Today will be doing shopping and prepping for our holiday dinner tomorrow. Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween and Donna's birthday since we are all together.

There are specialists who perform that procedure on folks. I know several people who have had it done with a 100% success rate. I have heard (but not read first-hand) that there's a risk to doing it wrong if you just follow internet instructions. I don't think it's expensive...it only takes a couple of minutes.

I got my first load of firewood delivered this afternoon. I'm paying the price for having procrastinated...the cost of fuel has dramatically increased the price of delivered firewood. I've learned to not pay attention to the word "cord" when it comes out of the mouths of firewood guys. I spent 2 hours stacking the first of 4 deliveries. I should have gotten my tractor out sooner...it would have taken less time and saved my back.

On the upside, my weather forecast goes out 10 days. Overnight temps have been in the mid 30s but are forecast to only get down to the 40s and 50s as far out as a week from Tuesday. I still gotta clean the flu, just to be safe. That involves pulling it off of the wood stove (because of the way the thing is designed) and running a brush through it from the roof. This stove burns clean, but I don't need to take any chances with fixing restricted air flow in winter temps.

Often just an MRI and office visit and Medicare picks up both.
