Fermenting and Pickling

Well, at least you tried. I find a lot of the asian foods are not nearly as appetizing as they appear, and can be borderline nasty. I have an unopened jar of commercially-packed kimchi in my refrigerator because I also wanted to "learn to like it", but it has been sitting in there for a few months now. This is the second jar I have bought without tasting.

One Japanese dish called "natto" has caught my eye lately (while watching videos) and I wonder if any SOCers have tried it. It is a fermented soybean product that gets stirred up and looks too much like a "bowl o' mucus" to me. :ROFLMAO: It's supposed to be super healthy, though.

I take the supplement nattokinase instead.
Yuk!

It does have beet juice in it. I would think the apple cider vinegar would overpower any beet flavor, though.
I haven't actually tried pickled eggs with beets. I have just assumed that I wouldn't like it because I don't like beets. Then again, I don't like cooked carrots, but I love them raw, and I don't like cooked peas, but I like peasoup, so who knows. I don't think I've ever had clams in anything other than clam chowder, but clams seem like they'd be disgusting on their own.

Have you eaten pickled beets or just plain canned or fresh beets? The pickled beets don't have that "earthy" flavor; they are kind of sweet and pickled. You might try a small batch of eggs (just a couple) and see what you think.
