We once had a cat crawl up inside the engine compartment to keep warm or get warm form the warmth of the engine. We drove the car to the grocery store later not knowing thee cat was there. It survived the trip and exited when we stopped. I never knew what happened to it as it exited when we stopped and we never saw it again.
Don, that reminds me of a cat story that happened to me.
Quite a few years back we were having a barbecue and a cat showed up, we fed it, and it adopted us. after its initial introduction it would show up randomly, it was very friendly we were able to hold it and pet it, it was never really ours, it came and went as it please. We called him Surprise, because we never a knew when he would show, nor did we know where he went.
it was February very cold and blistering night, there was something I needed in the store in a shopping center about two and a half miles away. It was nearing closing time so I was in a little bit of a hurry to get there. When I got to my car Surprise was by the driver side door, I gave him a quick pet thinking he would just scoot away, instead when I open the car door he jumped in. I didn't have time to coax him out, so he took a ride with me.
When we got to the shopping center I jumped out of the car in a little bit of a hurry, and Surprise followed me out. I didn't have time to waste trying to catch him and put him back in the car and I knew I would only be a few minutes so I figured I'd get him back in the car after I got back from shopping. when I return to the car I thought he would still be sitting in the area where I left him, he wasn't. I grabbed the flashlight out of my glove compartment and searched under my car fortunately they were not a lot of cars in the shopping center because of the weather and the lateness. After spending a half hour in the cold looking for him, calling out his name, I could not find him.
I got into the car to go home when I started the car and put the lights on I can see a cloud of fur rising from the car. I shut the engine off immediately and went and opened up the hood there was surprise with a look of fear in his eyes, he jumped out of the car and ran, I ran after him but I couldn't couldn't keep up or find him. I didn't know how hurt he was, but he seem to run pretty good. The next day I went back to the shopping center and looked around could not find him.
We all felt bad and decided to search for him again the next day. for me it was a horrible experience not knowing what happened to our friendly cat.
Two weeks later I heard scratching at the front door when I opened it there was a big meow and there was surprised, to my surprise he had returned. I examined him to make sure everything was okay there were no cuts or wounds anywhere but there was a streak of hair missing where I assumed he got too close to one of the belts of the engine. He found his way home from a couple of miles away. He continued with his routine of random visits for another 4 years and then one day he just never showed anymore.
