Good morning to all-

I'm in the process of preparing the fall/winter garden. I have late green beans planted and they are doing fairly well so far. First planting of fall/winter onions look quite nice- will be getting green onions soon.

Planted turnips yesterday, and got the supports cleaned up for fall snow peas.

We grow a lot more good stuff in fall and winter here than we ever do during summer.

And for you folks up north, I don't envy you the snow and cold. I've been there, and I know how hard it can be in the cold. I hope for the best for you all.

Unlike @Mary Stetler we had a terrible fruit year. Many of the fruit trees are dying here probably due to two bad winters in a row and a bad summer. Our friend lost at least 20 apple trees in his orchard and the apples that did form are small and not ripening well. We are experiencing similar stuff but on a smaller scale. A hard freeze is expected tonight, so we collected much of what was left in the garden and we will see what is left tomorrow. There are supposed to be two cold nights in a row and Possible snow, at least on the mountains above us. It is possible that we will have an Indian Summer, so the greenhouses are heated--the small one with electricity and the large one with a fire in the woodstove. We picked a lot, but we hope tn

Here things are backing up too with produce waiting to ripen, waiting to process, waiting to can and dry...One year I had peaches ripening in boxes in the bath tub. I leave dying trees a bit and sometimes they come back from the roots.

My wife took a photo of some of our Harvest. We had two friends over yesterday that pics about 10 lb of tomatoes, plus zucchini and cukes. I have been doing all the picking and I am very limited at what I can reach with my bad back. My wife will not be able to pick for a few more weeks, because of her eye surgery, she is not allowed to lift heavy items or bend over.

A friend of mine wants to help me with my gardening, he would like me to plant honey berry bushes. I did order some along with some strawberries not sure we will be here next year, he not aware of that. Until I am absolutely sure we are moving I'm not mentioning it to anyone.

You can just freeze the whole tomato @Tony Page. Like peppers, tomatoes don't require blanching, so they can just be frozen to be cooked or processed at a later time. We do that every year.

It works but is messy if you want to core seed or even skin the beasties afterwards.

My wife cored the tomato before she froze them.
We're planning on using these tomatoes for tomato sauce we'll see how easy the skin comes off.

We had a very good juicer, that did a great job of removing the seeds and skin. Then we would freeze the juice until we were ready to make a sauce. Unfortunately we lost the juicer in a house fire, and have never replaced it.

This is the first time I've grown this many tomatoes in a long time. I have been just planting a few pots make enough for salads. For some reason this year I went nuts and started and planted about 80 plants.
