How old were you when you first started hanging washing on a clothesline?

I was around age 9-10! One of my favourite jobs was hanging baby siblings diapers and rubber pants on the line for my mom!

Those were the days...

Very young because I had child's washing line. I would wash my doll's clothes and hang them on the play washing line.

My baby brother played marbles all the time! In his later year when he was past the days of marbles, he had a large ice cream pail filled to the brim with marbles!

We didn't live in a house in my childhood so I was only able to start doing it in my late 20's when married and our first house with a yard !

I misread the title of the thread ....I thought it was chores that kids don't do anymore

Gosh, my mom had a treadle sewing machine almost identical to that one, Milly!

It what I learned on as well at high school when I was 14, I even had one up till we sold our home in the city in 2004 ( just used it for decoration in the lounge room )

It’s something kids don’t learn at school now days …..at least to my knowledge

Seeing that treadle sewing machine made me think back to my junior-high school days.

It was called Home Economics, and the class taught a little of everything domesticity related. Sewing, general housework, laundry, baby-care, cooking, baking, what a great class!

Hospital corners when making beds, and when changing my baby siblings cribs, and when babysitting, too, at the homes of neighbourhood moms!

At home with my baby siblings, my mom and I often applied a diaper pin at each corner of the baby crib mattress when doing hospital corners to keep the sheets extra-taught, especially when my baby sibs go older.

Loved it when mom started buying fitted crib sheets!

Also did the applied diaper pin corner mattress thing with my own kids when the elastic would start going in the fitted sheets! Rubber crib sheets were elasticized.
