What Are You Doing Today?

Big thunderstorm with wind and rain last night got me up at 2 AM. So, my otherwise agenda-less day will include picking up some tree branches and getting the patio furniture back in place. I wasted the morning finding a denim Harley USA made top on Poshmark. It is in my cart, but I slapped my right hand with my left, before hitting, buy it now. I suppose I best get out and walk. The sun is now out. 109 yesterday. 75 out there now and rising. I was surprised the rain didn't cool things down more, but it was a warm rain.

The heavy smoke that rolled in last night, puts the quietus on my morning walk. The lawn needs mowed, but not too excited about mowing with a wet towel around my face. Not sure where the fires are, but I am guessing all around, since the lightening from yesterday was all around.

The smoke smells like forest burning timber, which is a worse smoke for me than range (grass and sage brush) fire smoke. The weather service shows AQI at 134 which is only a problem for sensitive groups. I think someone or maybe AI is asleep at the job. The smoke is very heavy and can be smelled indoors with fan on circulate all night. Visibility is seriously reduced. No wind, nary a breeze. Stagnation is the word.

I will reassess any outdoor activity at dawn when I can study the birds. Birds are very accurate assessors of air quality. My eyes are wonky this morning, so ta ta for now.

Good morning to all

I don't envy you all up north and west- I would find dealing with wildfires very troubling, I think.

Down here on the Gulf Coast, we deal with hurricanes and hot/humid weather, but wildfires are very rarely a problem. I think that smoke and imminent evacs would be very hard.

We have lots of pine trees which burn quite well, but we also have lots and lots of bayous, creeks, rivers and other water sources that make a fast, wide blaze of fire impossible- mostly.

You all up there in first country be safe and keep well- Ed

I sound like a broken record... puttering around the yard, putting a load of laundry on, obsessing about what's for dinner, etc. I should just type "SOS" and y'all will get it.
Being retired means pretty much SOS everyday. I don't even know what day it is half the time because I have nowhere I have to be. No kids in school...Hubby looks at me like I have alzheimers because I don't know we have something to do on a particular day and I don't know it.
Of course he does not do the SOS that I do for him every day. Laundry, pay bills, dishes, yard work.
He DOES remember to take out the garbage on the right day and mows the house lawn, though.
The smoke is bad down here. I just yelled at my sister via email to stop sending it down from Minnesota. She said it is not her fault. The smoke is coming from Canada.

The fire map shows I am surrounded on all sides by fires. Mostly small and partially contained, but there is about 130 of them, so firefighters are busy. Closest fire is about 40 miles and moving away, so no danger other than smoke which is getting lighter since a breeze came up and smoke ceiling raised and is dissipating. I see Lois and Mary blaming Canada and while in years past Canada and California have been the fire hot spots that smoked us out, this year they escape accusation so far.

I got all the patio plants watered and trimmed, sat out there with my morning coffee soaking in a little sun. I need to gather up granddaughter's dirty clothes to wash and pack since she is going home tomorrow. Just one more day and so far no bathroom flooding incidents though we did have a serious discussion about toilet paper management early on.

Since their home is outside of Bastrop (near Austin), we will take her halfway and my son will meet us to "exchange the goods." That way no one has to drive all day to get her home. It has been nice having her here but I will be glad to get back to our normal routine. I'm really tired and I find it stressful having someone in the house, even if it is family. I don't know why our kids all moved so far away; if they lived in town they could drop by for a couple of hours and then go home. :ROFLMAO:
