The Tractor Thread

And this is why I buy Land-O-Lakes butter.

“Buying Land O’Lakes butter directly supports over 1,000 dairy farmer-owners
, as the company is a farmer-owned cooperative, not a traditional corporation. Purchases help sustain American family farms, provide resources to rural communities, and fund initiatives for sustainable agriculture practices, ensuring income goes back to the farmers.

I was unaware of this. I'll stop buying the house brand and switch to Land-O-Lakes.

Since we have so many country, present or former, folks on SOC, let's be prepared to defend the John Deere emblem. First note since we have both farm, ranch, and small acreage folks, I referred to us as a whole, as country folks.

Now, we might believe that the Deer in question is a deer of color, whether green or yellow. Next we might believe that the deer, while appearing to be a buck, may identify as a doe. It appears to be prancing. Then finally we may believe that the deer is leaping after prancing, as if crossing a road, and may have mental issues, perhaps suicidal. Do these luxury progressive beliefs, warrant eliminating the emblem? I say not! Leave the deer be.

"Nothing Runs Like a Deere." :D

Kubota owners would like to remind Deere supporters that it took a lawsuit for Deere to provide the computer codes so that farmers can perform maintenance on equipment that the farmers own. The only ones seeing "green" were the dealers.

@Jake Smith , I can’t find the foto of the 3000 that I want. This was in 2004, when we were cross-fencing this property. We bought the tractor at an estate auction in 2003. We are second owners on it. The original owner kept it in a machine shed.

My husband kept it in his workshop, where it still lives. It looks the same today, just needs the injectors cleaned, which my brother will do whenever he can get away. He’s a plumber in NE Ohio, so just popping in to my small farm in Middle Tennessee doesn’t happen. Which is why I hope my neighbor with the bat wings can cut again.

"Fine", looking tractor, Connie I guess I just love all tractors.

We have some in the freezer now. I always seem to grab a couple, and freeze them so we don't run out.

Took my tractor around trail at 7pm, before dark, and for some reason these deer always meet me at the back corner, they stand there staring at me, maybe six foot from tractor, so I wave at them and they wag there tails, not seeming to be scared of tractor at all. Then one bent down, shook her head back and forth and they took off. :D It's so nice to see them healthy and happy.

Is chronic waste (CWD) an issue in your area? It is confirmed in 21 of Tennessee’s 95 counties. So far, mostly West Tennessee.

“They” say it’s not zoonotic. I won’t eat venison, but if I did, I wouldn’t be eating any these days and my county doesn’t have any formal record of CWD yet.

I haven't heard about it being bad here, but I had to skin one that ran into a fence post a year or so back, seem to have broke her neck, was still alive and we called fish and game they said you can bring her in, but soon as you leave they will put her down. She said if you know how to skin her, and can use the meat; I'll give you permission to do it. Wasn't doe season, told her, I would and I did; tasted great, when I started grilling up and putting venison on, my dogs were right there and stayed until it was all gone, they "love" it, and so do I. I've skinned and eaten lots of wildlife in my days; back when growing up, I was hunting or fishing if you were looking for me. Most of the meat we ate was wild caught. I will look into what you're saying about CDW. Thanks, "Connie".

@Jake Smith neres the USGS 2025 map for chronic waste. It is fatal to deer and elk, a devastatingly slow death😢

That link shows Florida being clear of it, and according this 2026 link I pulled up, only these four "cases", from 2023 until feb 2026, and not in my county, though it's like a "roll", of the dice. Always something out to get you, guess pick your poison, so to "speak". :)

As of February 26, 2026, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has confirmed a total of four positive cases of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in Florida, all found in Holmes County. The initial case in June 2023 was followed by three additional, separate cases found in road-killed deer within the established Holmes County CWD management zone, with cases confirmed in October 2025 and February 2026.

@Jake Smith , That poor old tractor put a whole new meaning into the term rustbucket. I can’t believe it was restorable.

I watched the whole video it was mind-boggling. That took more than a day or two.😇😇

And after all that he put it out in the field to work. I’m not sure I would’ve done that..

There is an old Ford Ferguson (with steel wheels) on the Family farm that my dad parked many years ago and has a tree growing up through the middle of it. This gives me hope that maybe someday my brother and my nephew may do the same thing for it doubtful but there’s always hope.😇😇

*******

To change the subject slightly, my brother made it down from Ohio. I don’t know if he’s going to get my Ford 3000 running, as it seems the four wheelers are taking up more time than what we planned on.

My Honda rancher needs new tires on the front because they’re both dry rotted. One won’t hold air. The other one is close to not holding air. The last thing I need is to be at the very back of this property, have a tire go flat and have to walk back. It looks like the price of tires is about $115 apiece.😳😳. That’s more than they cost for my Saturn.

There is a Tire thread, but it is not geared to those of us who changed tires on the farm. It is geared to those folks who only drive cars, so I choose to stay out of it. I did change my own tires until I got too full of arthritis to do that.

Actually, when my brother got here, he brought me two gifts. One was a pound of fudge from Buc-ee’s. The other was a used, but works very well half inch drive Dewalt impact wrench. It does have a brand new battery. it goes nicely with my DeWalt lithium battery operated tire inflater

A pound of good fudge and an air impact wrench ——- I am stylin now.🤸‍♂️🤸‍♂️
