Andie's Attitude of Gratitude

I think I've been complaining too much lately, so I'm starting this diary to remind myself of all the good things I have.

I'll start with what is always at the top of my list, my family: my kind, loving, son, my helpful, funny, good hearted husband, my brother who has always been there for me since the day I was born, his fabulous wife who makes us all better people with her example.

Water. Oh how grateful I am to live in an area with plenty of water. I use it for coffee in the morning and tea in the afternoon and big glasses of it at every meal. I love long showers and the ability to do as many loads of laundry as I want to during the week.

I recently watched a YouTube video of a walk through an African village where the only water supply seemed to be a dirty stream. How sad for them all, particularly the women who were trying to cook and care for their families where every drop was precious.

Yes! We are so lucky to have plenty of water. I drink a lot of pure clean filtered water everyday.

One thing I am always thankful for is indoor plumbing! Everytime I have to use the bathroom during the night or when the weather is cold, windy, rainy, etc., I say a little "thank you" for indoor plumbing. 😁

Try Vandiver, AL when the wells ran dry.

I remember the days when I would be in the woods for weeks at a time. I thought that mankind's greatest invention was the toilet.

Oh, yes, indoor plumbing is something I think of anytime one of us is sick. Imagine having the flu or even a sprained ankle and having to make that trip in the night!

Wow! I just looked that up and it's scary to think it could happen to any of us if some company did too much digging. It looks like such a beautiful place to live, too.

Reading. I've enjoyed books even before I could read. My older brother would read to me as he read to himself. My family didn't have much money, but we rode the bus to town once a month and our mother would always take us to the library for a while so we could all get books.

We read books, comic books, magazines, newspapers and cereal boxes. I still read a little bit in bed every night, it seems to take me away from the worries of the day and into another, more peaceful state of mind. I'm also still using the library which is another thing to be grateful for. Thank you, Andrew Carnegie!

What was interesting is that strangers in surrounding areas opened their homes as in showers and laundry for a long time.

Thanks Andie White. What a great idea for a thread!

I always liked history and Bile study seeking the truth sometimes I'd come from library with up to 25 books on opinions and Middle East geography. Jake would check out half since a limit.
The more you know the more a mystery. So the study is never ending.
" Much wisdom brings great sorrow, Solomon " at times.

Wow Marie you must be a true expert on the subject. I should check out much more non-fiction than I do.

It was interesting, Marie Miller! It's in keeping with what I'm grateful for right now.

The Kindness of Strangers. I've been on the receiving end of so much of that lately since a sprained ankle has me temporarily in a wheel chair. Just yesterday I was rolling through Kroger and so many people offered to reach things for me. Absolutely everyone seemed to be in a friendly, chatty mood.

Our local Kroger seems to be a center of lots of spontaneous charity and, "paying it forward." I've seen people at the register paying for the poor looking family behind them, women buying flowers for other women, and one woman gave a birthday present to the grumpy young man who runs the self-check machines!

How inspiring, I too notice how helpful in the stores people are. So glad to help me reach items on top shelves when Jake is not near by, help me find things, etc..

Ouch! A sprained ankle. I have heard sometimes a sprain can take longer to heal than something broken.:( I hope you are on the mend. :)

I'm glad the folks in your Kroger store is nice! Some of the employees at my Kroger store look like they are sucking on lemons. They grumble when you ask them where something is located. They acted like you asked them for their kidney. :rolleyes:They are always rearranging store, so it is difficult to find things sometimes.

They rearrange our Kroger all the time, too, Krystal. They've told me it has been proven to make us spend more money, but it's still a pain in the neck for the customers and the clerks. As for grumpy employees, I think it all traces back to the manager, what he/she will tolerate and values. We've been lucky in our area.

I think you absolutely right about the managers. Some care about their employees and staff, and some don't give a rats patootie, as long as they save the company money and get their bonus.
