I am waiting for my hosting to get set up on it, since I want to use a host other than the one I registered the domain with. Then, it will be a matter of installing WordPress, setting up the design, and some of the static pages. That can take a while, depending on how easy or difficult the design proves to be. Plus, I'll probably want to have at least a few posts ready to go since it's hard to tell what a WordPress design is going to look like until there's something there.

I've got a 503 word story. It does have enough adjectives to cut three words. I ran it through my world counter just to get the feel for 500 words but I'm sure its not what you're looking for. Maybe I can try my hand when you know what you want. I expect there are some pretty good fiction writers here on this forum if you can shake them loose.

Bill, I haven't seen it but I am not planning on having it about any one thing. Eventually, as there are enough articles to do so, they will be organized into topic categories, but pretty much anything that's original, reasonably well written, and not published elsewhere should be good. Having read your forum posts, I don't think you'd have any trouble meeting those stipulations. The 500-word thing will take some getting used to, but I'm sort of looking forward to the discipline of it. I am even going to restrain each of the static pages (About Us, Writer Guidelines, etc.) to 500 words.

It is unknown, I'm sure, how many will step up and attempt to write a five hundred word story for your project. I'm not sure I could but one time I was on a forum that billed itself as a writing forum. The bandwidth for this forum was donated by the British BBC, the only stipulation being the forum would train professional screenwriters and BBC provided instructors and assistance in setting up the forum. I said that to say they had a section that wrote fiction writing from prompts. An instructor would issue three prompt each week or maybe a student would choose the prompts. Those in the class chose a prompt to write about. Some wrote a story from all three prompts. Some people can do this with ease where they might otherwise have problems choosing a subject themselves. Might be something that would help you generate stories. Most of those stories were five hundred to a thousand words. Just saying...

Certainly, I'll suggest topics but I'd leave the door open for people choose their own.

Which of these logos do you prefer?

    500 Words-01-500.jpg
    The unpeeled orange; or

    500 Words-02-500.jpg
    the peeled orange?

The domain will be 500words.online so the title can be either "500 Words" or "500 Words Online."

    The peeled orange.

Is the orange important? Just curious why you chose an orange.

Not particularly. I began by thinking that I wanted to use orange, as a color, in the logo. Psychologically, orange is supposed to generate a feeling of trust and well, I sort of like orange. Then, realizing that an actual image of an orange could be used as well, it would lend an excuse for the use of the color. I lean toward the first one, but may use the second as well, not as a logo, but as an image in my static (internal) pages, since a peeled orange would give the sense of being inside the orange, or maybe the other way around, depending on which I opt for. In an hour, I might prefer the other one. I also like the touch of green. Yeah, I know that no one is going to think that through but there might be a subliminal effect.

To me the unpeeled orange makes me think of food and not writing. Actually think of OJ or healthy food that's why I picked the peeled orange....it also looks like a wheel to me so doesn't have me thinking food.

I'd be good with either but do like the splatter of green and prefer 500 words rather than 500 words online.

The allure of the orange... so symbolic of a juicy story once the inside sections are revealed. It's color is oh so inviting!

Aesthetically I'm drawn to the slices of the second graphic. It imparts strength with a sense of balance and a yin yang effect which gives it calm.

The first one depicted sends me mixed signals: It's like being enticed towards the number 50 - baited with fruit! Besides, the circular citrus juxtaposed against the oval zed makes googly eyes which tickles my funny bone.

Otherwise, it's all a matter of taste. Neither choice would be detrimental to the success of the project but that's just how I feel.

As an artist, I would choose the second one.
Even though the first may be visually appealing, it still looks a bit too much like a retro product logo.
Even though the age group you may be targeting is older, most of us still prefer to remain relevant and up to date.
The trend is a sharp, almost minimal visual and the less words, the better.
The second one provides both of those things.

It's been awhile but I'm caught up. I like the second logo.

My thoughts on both logos #1 I thought of orange juice immediately then read 'Words Online'; #2 Because the color was consistant I saw and read it all. Changing the color on #1 would not make me change my choice.
