One that used to be very common, but which I rarely hear anymore is "reckon." It was once common for people to start sentences out with, "I reckon..."

I reckon that is still used a lot here, @Ken Anderson . :D Do you reckon it may be a regional thing?

Snuff box. I daresay most of you have never heard that used.

In this town it seems that we have an abundance of "gimmee dats" wandering around.

I once read that if Southerners would quit "Reckon'" things, they wouldn't be all the time "Fixin' to" things.

Did that make sense?????????????????? I'm fixin' to get myself cornfused. :D

I used to hear it a lot, growing up in Michigan, but haven't heard it much since.

Ah, now doesn't that feel much better?
And no, it is not to my satisfaction but to a dictatorial English teacher wielding a small stick in her hand. Though she is long gone, in my mind's eye I imagine her standing over people with her stick ready to tap anyone who should know better on the noggin.

Addendum: I do not use the term "doctor" in front of my name because it is only an honorary title given to me.
And yes, we are still friends.......….

    Ah, another word: Noggin!

I'm happy with your scholastic reply, Dr. Cole!
I would like to have a picture of you, face or full figure...this would help me to assess what kind of "friend" you are.
