My mental bucket list kicked in yesterday. Certain things trigger a desire for me to pursue things out of the blue. Seven years ago, was working on a family tree, thru Ancestry.com. I grew tried of the endless hours at the computer, and really did not feel I had enough information to continue. Instead,I have sent off for the DNA kit through Ancestry, and should get it sometime this week. Not really expecting anything outrageous, just want to see if I am really just a conglomeration formed into a Heinz 57 variety as I have always claimed. I have been going over again what information I do have about past family members, and may try again at finding out who they were, and how they came to be in certain areas of the US. For instance my grandmother on my dads side was suppose to be American indian, and her looks at least would make you think that true. However her maiden name, has me wondering. Anyways will be fun to find out much as I can, while I still can. Time consuming, but can be interesting also.
Well hello there Gloria I've pondered whether to do this family tree lark but as me Father was Irish it will be extra difficult to trace that side of the family. So what's this DNA business - haven't heard of this, what will it tell you ?
Oh I know how much Irish flows within me - I'm 3 quarters full ........................................
My sister had it done...it tells you where your ancestors came from looooong ago. We've been Hungarian on both sides for generations as far back as we know but the test for her showed she was 44% Eastern European, 41 % Scandinavian and 2 % Asian. There was something else but I forget. It didn't narrow down the Eastern European to Hungarian. She did a cheek swab and it cost $100+..also don't remember the exact cost. She did this about 2 years ago. My DNA should be similar but not exactly like hers.
I, personally, don't really want to know any more about my ancestors than I already do. As far as wife goes, we have photos, on USB, of her as a baby and a number of pics of her entire family. She didn't live with three families, like I did. All three families were related to me, in one way or another.
My DNA wasn't entirely surprising. While I wasn't 100% Swedish, as I had been led to believe, my DNA is from within that neighborhood.
