That's often my question when I'm reading such stories @Martin Alonzo. It seems many people don't have an ounce of empathy or compassion these days. There's going to be a show on Animal Planet, I believe, about a bird injured by kids in Costa Rica. I think someone (I set it up to record, but didn't read the whole description) created an artificial beak piece to replace what was broken off. I just can't comprehend how someone can do that, whether they find it amusing or not, but of course finding it amusing is even more disturbing.
