What was the first live concert you've attended, other than a church choir or school function?

The first actual concert that i attended was when i was 13, in 1958, and just starting to have rock-and-roll favorites. Of course, Buddy Holly was one of those top favorites, so when he came to Spokane in the summer of 1958, my mom took me and another friend to see the concert.

Along with Buddy Holly, were the Big Bopper (Chantilly Lace), Jimmie Rogers (Honeycomb), Buddy Knox (Party Doll), and a couple others whom I can’t remember anymore.
The concert was awesome, and afterwards, my mom took me to the backstage area where they were autographing the concert books.

It was a day that I will always remember, and wish that i still had that concert book with all of the autographs on it. The year before, Elvis Presley was in Spokane in late summer of 1957, for one of his last tours before the Army took him away from his fans.
That same year, Rex Allen and Koko were at the Diamond Spur rodeo, and Rex Allen was one of my cowboy hero’s at that time. My mom said that she would take me to see one or the other, but not both, and i chose to see Rex Allen.
I have wished ever since that we had gone to see Elvis instead.

Other than local bands that never went anywhere, I saw Paul Revere & the Raiders in the mid-1960s when they played in Peshtigo, Wisconsin.

I don't know if bands at Oktoberfests count, but somewhere around 1968 I saw Myron Floren play in Pennsylvania somewhere. Technically, that would have been my first concert.

If you ever watched The Lawrence Welk Show, you'll recognize him:

I remember that the line to have him sign t-shirts and record albums was insanely long.
No one threw lederhosen onto the stage.

I saw them too at the same place we teens went to teen dances, Misty Waters Amusement Pard in Decatur Ga. We saw lots of bands there,The Swinging Medallions was one I've seen in 3 different states, seems everywhere I'd move to they would be there.

    It's an interesting spectrum.
    -You've been to none.
    -I've been to a handful.
-I've know people who attended concerts with the same degree of frequency that others might go see a movie or go fishing, even if they did not care for the band...it was their "something to do."

I've know some people who are such rabid fans of a given band that they have flown all across the country to watch them in concert, actually seeing the exact same show over and over, just in different cities/venues.
