Some I don't even know, will have to google. RIP Wayne Rogers! I hate to read when someone dies of pneumonia.
I just saw this one... Pat Harrington Jr.: Film and TV Actor Dies at Age 86, His Daughter Says Harrington Jr., who played Schneider on the television sitcom "One Day at a Time," died two months after his daughter announced he had Alzheimer's disease and that his health was worsening.
A few others...Terry Pratchett, Andre Brink, Percy Sledge, Cilla Black, BB King, Ruth Rendell and Gunter Grass.
Gunter Grass was a great author, although he doesn't seem to be so well known in the United States. Even translated from German to English, I enjoyed his books very much.
Wayne Rogers was an actor best known to me for his roll in MASH. I think that has been the only series reruns that I have enjoyed watching over and over. I'll always carry the image of him playing one of the three Stoogies with a cigar hanging between his fingers. That is a kind of comedy I'd like to see more of.
Was that also a movie? It seems like I saw it a very very long time ago. I know I didn't read the book, but remember the author when I worked at the bookstore.
Yes, there was a movie with the same title, The Tin Drum. It was in German, though. I don't think there was an English version.
The film The Tin Drum was released in 1979, directed by Volker Schlöndorff. Grass collaborated on the film and appears to have approved of it. The book was the first part of a trilogy, the other works being Cat and Mouse and Dog Years, collectively known as the Danzig trilogy. Die Blechtrommel, Katz und Maus and Hundejahre are the original German titles.
