Last summer I hired a car and Lisa and I toured the Almalfi Coast in southern Italy for 3 weeks, it's a stunningly beautiful place but crazy to drive along and pretty much a continuous traffic jam. We took a boat to the Isle of Capri for a day and found it a wonderful serene place. There is a villa there called Sam Michele created by a Swedish Psychiatrist called Axel Munthe, it was so enchanting we spent most of the afternoon there. "Villa San Michele on Capri in Italy is a magical place that must be experienced. Some speak of Feng shui perfection, about a node for magnetic flows, and others about its enchanting beauty. Villa San Michele is undoubtedly unique and a living example of the dream that became reality. Perhaps a dream springing from a longing for beauty or an individual’s attempt to deal with his feelings of powerlessness. The soul needs more space than the body Axel Munthe coined ingeniously and may have devoutly believed. Is he perhaps like Icarus when from the heights of Capri’s steep cliffs he stretches out for more" Here are a few photos we took:
Great photos Terry., looks very rural and rustic indeed... ..we're thinking of perhaps going to Southern Italy next Summer..not sure where yet. I lived and worked in Northern Italy about 25 years ago
We had those Blue Nile Lillies in Southern Calif. when I lived there. Your pic brought back pleasant memories as did your other garden pics. I love Lisa's pretty butterfly sundress. The view is stunning.
Yes it was gorgeous, the weather quite hot but not too much, you would have loved it I am sure, lots of history interesting places to eat and drink and lovely old towns to wander around, maybe even popsicle stalls
Great pics Terry...I've said it a long time ago elsewhere ..Lisa is beautiful and no waaay do you look in your 70's...and btw seeing a REAL Italian Pizza, is making me crave one...there's no nicer Pizza than a thin crust pizza eaten in Italy..
I stayed in Sorrento a couple of years ago...we visited Pompeii and Herculaneum and trekked up Vesuvius as well. We took the ferry across to Naples to see the archaeological museum, a must when you see the nearby sites. We had a trip round the Amalfi coast by bus and boat. Most scenic, indeed. But please, less litter!
Yes Tom we did the Pompeii, Herculaneum and the trek up Vesuvius as well, enjoyed the whole experience, don't recall the litter especially, but I guess I have got used to peoples careless ways.
I've got quite a few photos from my visit. I loved the "vertical villages" on the coast, though a trip to the shops would be hard work and I wouldn't fancy the walk back from the pub...
My daughter is going to her best friends wedding on the Almalfi Coast in May. She's going with her boyfriend for a week and then will continue on to Greece for a week and finally Norway where her boyfriend is from. Her girlfriend's parents are very familiar with the Amalfi Coast and will show them around there but I'm enjoying this thread very much and will tell her what I've learned. Thank you.
I am sure your daughter will love it Lara and being shown around by someone who knows the area will be a bonus. I will have to sort out some more pics of the other places we visited along the coast.
