I toured the museum of the wall back in the 1960's and cried all the way through. What people had to do to leave East Germany just could break your heart. Going over to East Berlin for the day was heartbreaking, too. Such a sad place and we had an unpleasant experience coming back through Check Point Charlie. Luckily, the train ride to and from Berlin through East Germany was uneventful, except for the fact that I had to have my 14-year-old sister on my transit visa as my "child" and that was dicey at times (I was only a teenager myself).
