Texas Secession Passes State Republican Resolutions Committee Vote The resolution passed by a vote of 7 to 4. What do you think?
It was a statement by the Texas Republican party to place the idea of seceding from the Union to the voters, but as a non-binding resolution.
I think they are just trying to send a message to congress that they are fed up with the way things are done in government. Most of the citizens of this country have been sending that message for years but nothing is ever done. There are more people in congress these days who support the constitution and the American citizens but they are still outnumbered.
33.28% of Texas revenue comes from the Federal Government. Texas ranks as #29 in dependence on the Federal subsidies. (#1 is the least dependent. #50, the most dependent.) If they were to secede, how would they make up that shortfall? Texas has a huge immigrant problem. If they secede, how do they handle the illegals coming across the longest stretch of border with Mexico? Can they afford to line the border with Texas National Guard personnel? Probably not. The far right wing folks of Texas have talked of seceding for many years. The most noise has been made since this POTUS took office. This resolution was put together by 7 members of an 11 person committee. It is nothing but blustering to appease the far right wing movement within that State. 1.) Even if brought to a vote, it would never pass due to how many dollars Texas would lose. 2.) The U.S. Government would not allow Texas to secede. Revisit the history of the Civil War. 3.) Some may say if the dollars Texas citizens and businesses send to the Federal Government were kept within the State, they would be fiscally solvent. If those businesses were then subject to tariffs and import taxes as with most other foreign nations, there would be an immediate exodus to locations with some semblance of common sense.
