We are nearing:
Ken, do you have statistics on where everyone is from? I'm just curious how many countries are represented within the membership here.
Since I don't require that people give that information, I don't have that. I could probably go into my server statistics and get an idea where people are coming to the forum from, but that would include non-members, and the spammers and those who are frequently subjecting us to DOS attacks would be included, so the number one country would probably be China, although I don't think we have any members from there. I know that when the forum is under a DOS attack, all of the ISPs that I see are from China.
Ahh, I didn't think of that, Ken. That makes sense. Oh good, so there are no Russian or Korean attackers? It would be so nice if everyone was on the up and up, and no attacks occurred. At least it's comforting to know they're all foreigners, I guess.
I'm from the Deep South, in the good ol' USofA! Yee haw!
Born in Frisco, raised in L.A., retired in Oregon ... an all-American boy!
Sheldon Scott is not my real name but I really am from planet earth. There are some on here who know who I am and where I live but for now, at least, I'll just say I'm from a state that was part of the CSA.
I live in Scotland, but was born in England and have both British and Irish passports. Even so, I'm still only one person...
I am originally from Romania. I've lived most of my life in the States - I had a small laundromat business. Now, however, after the business failing, I've retired and went back to Romania to live my last decades in my true home. So I guess you could say that I'm Romanian at heart but I think like an American.
That narrows it down quite a bit. Basically... the south. But your hesitance to be specific has me intrigued. Another hint?
I was looking for somewhere nicer than here to move my family to about 20 years ago, now. I found a cottage in Scotland. It was small and basic. But it was on a hill, looking down one side you see the water, and looking out the other side you see beautiful, grassy landscape. It was only 85,000 pounds or euros. I wanted it more than I have ever wanted a house or home. Unfortunately, Scotland didn't want me, lol. I envy you for getting to live there, and hear the beautiful Scottish accent everytime you talk to someone. lol
Okay, we're eight members short of the mini-goal that I began this thread with:
No matter how big or small a goal is, the important is getting there, and I'm sure we're gonna make it hitting the milestone you have set
Another forum I was on started out to be a really good forum with a lot of good discussions but then a group of really nasty people more or less took over, and ganged up on anyone who had a different opinion and got away with name calling and putting people down mostly because the moderator was on their side.
So, I decided to stay somewhat anonymous on here until I see how it goes on this forum. I may decide to leave at any time.
I think that we have all been going on "rescue missions" to bring in some of the fold before the sharks eat them or scare them out of the water, @Sheldon Scott . I just invited another one this morning, and hopefully, he will show up.
We don't have any sharks here, and we also have a really good Lifeguard !
I don't think you have to worry here. It seems very well moderated from what I can tell. I've only seen friendly conversation here. I actually kind of love the way everybody acts like decent human beings. Anyway, if anyone shows up here and starts to be a d-bag, I've got your back. And I'm really good at being mean to mean people.
Until then, lets continue playing the "Where is Sheldon from", game. So, does the state you're from still enforce blue laws? Is it a state or a common wealth?
It appears to me that Sheldon wants to remain anonymous, since he stated that. It doesn't look to me like you have been anynore forthcoming about where you are from than @Sheldon Scott has, since you only said that you sre from the South, @Jennifer Graves , and that is exactly what he has said, too.
I'm from Cottage grove, Tennessee. I have lived in Louisiana, South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, and North Carolina. Several spots in each of those states, too. I've never been shy about it. Anyone who has asked has been told. And more than once I've told without being asked.
I was playing around with Sheldon. After the hint regarding the confederacy, it sounded like a fun guessing game to me. It was all in good fun before your comment.
No problem Jennifer. I spent two years at Seward Air Force Base near Nashville, Tennessee. Here's a hint, the state I'm from is on the other side of Big Muddy from you.
I want to point out that I'm not going to cheat and google, "big muddy". Is it the Mississippi?
Yes, it is.
Here is my life story if you're interested.
I bet you seriously stand out in a teal blue suit. I can imagine you would stand out in a crowd.
Seriously, though, I've never heard of Shell Scott, but I love a good detective story. How do they comapre with Sherlock?
Ha,ha. I got hooked on Shell Scott probably before you were born. When I was in the USAF we would pass his books around the barracks. The crimes he solved were somehow secondary to the capers he got into while investigating them. I found a few of his books at a used book store a couple of years ago.
Maybe you got into him so much because his name is so similar to yours
lol I'm kidding!!
If you're on the other side of the mississippi, I think I know where you are. If I'm right, you are in the same state I went crystal mining in. We spent a week camping out and mining for bags and bags of quartz crystals.
You can also mine for diamonds here. All I ever find are lumps of coal.
