Well, that was anti-climactic. Houston has been buzzing all day, anticipating the SpaceX launch that has been scrubbed because of the weather. Have you been following? Guess I'll be glued to the TV on Saturday.
We seen the scrub yesterday and have already set our tv recorder to record the event on The Weather Channel for this Saturday.
The last time I was enthusiastic about a launch was in ‘86 when the Challenger blew up. I used to watch all the launches from the Cape but when I, looking through a pair of binoculars saw the explosion, I somehow lost a lot of interest in chancing another view of any further launches.
That is another of those historic "I remember exactly what I was doing" days. It was a workday; I had gone home for lunch and was making a sandwich with the TV on for the launch. The horror of that explosion kept me frozen in place for several minutes.
That launch created an emotional response in a lot of people including news reporters. I have to find a video of the first stage's vertical landing though. That is the coolest thing. It brings back memories of old science fiction movies.
Congrats on the successful launch after such a long time. There's been extensive live coverage of the docking manoeuvre in space commented on by ex-astronauts who were working on the ISS. Once again, I'm amazed at the age of the astronauts both being around 50. I wondered how anyone can be the fittest person on earth at an age when ordinary people usually have their first stroke or heart attack? Anyway, I wish them well. I like the stylish crew dragon and their space suits. Watched the lunar mission in black 'n' white which was also given full live coverage. Thanks, @Beth Gallagher for the early video. Was tight asleep when it took off.
Usually we can see the flame from our yard as soon as it clears the trees, but there were clouds in the way. We did see the trail up high, though. Very emotional moment. Just about everyone in the neighborhood was out cheering.
