Today is the anniversary of our family's move to Alaska. My wife was uneasy about the move, but went along with it as I wanted the adventure and we were initially only obligated for 2 years. After a few years here, she refuses to move anywhere else. The small population of the state gives us friends all over the state, and three of our children have elected to stay here to raise their families.

It is also the 60th anniversary of the 1964 earthquake that devastated the Southcentral region of the state. Hope that never happens again.

Like any move, employment is a huge factor (unless you're retired.) I gotta think that Alaska is the most challenging state on that issue.

We had six kids here, but two married Boeing engineers and one is a trucking manager in Kansas City. Three DID remain here--all boys/men.

Von just put up the northern lights, do you see them where you're at?

I note that you moved there as winter was ending.

I used to see them all the time when I was commuting, I don't stay up so late any more and the light pollution even here causes difficulties. If we stay up late in the winter and it isn't cloudy, we see them all the time.
