There was a terrible incident here, a Mother and 3 children killed when a truck ran into them at speed
He was using the mobile to text. So common here
I think it should be an instant ban and the man charged with manslaughter
How is it in the US are they strict on this ?

It's against the law to talk or text on your phone here....I guess some still do it just like some drink and drive.

I can talk on the phone in my car with Bluetooth. There's an answer phone button on my steering wheel. Also a button to end the call.

Also allows me to talk commands...just have to say call daughter and it will do it. Have to program what people you want to call first.

As of right now in my state, you can still use a handheld cell to talk.
    You can't text while driving.
I hope the law is changed soon and we ban handheld cell use while driving.

Wow @Tim Burr ...I thought it was illegal everywhere in the states to talk on a hand held phone. Seems it's been a law in CA for a long time now.

Well its against the law here, but still happens
Something really needs to be done, its horrendous to be driving now, no common sense with people today
I've seen people reading whilst driving

This is a serious problem here, too, @Patsy Faye . A few years ago, we had a high school student badly injured because she was not looking and walked across the street near the school and got hit by an oncoming car. It is almost inevitable that we wait when the light turns green because someone ahead of us is still talking or texting on the phone when it changes, and doesn't see the light changing.
When I am driving and the phone rings, I look to see who is calling, and if it looks important, then I pull off of the road to talk so that I don't endanger anyone, or interrupt the flow of traffic. Otherwise, I just leave it until I am stopped at my destination and then return the call.
Out here, we are legal to talk on the phone; but not to text, and if people can do it hands free, then that is also legal.
For a while, there was an issue everywhere with people playing that new interactive game and not looking where they were going; but we never hear about that anymore; so it must not be a problem.
I think that a lot of accidents are still cell phone related though, and they will probably be making the laws stricter, or enforcing them better in all countries.

The Pokémon Go game turned out to be some false or exaggerated stories of people walking off a cliff etc.

A good example of fake news spreading as truth.

It also depends where you live how fast laws are passed....CA drivers have been banned from using hand held phones since 2008.

I agree @Patsy Faye. I am a confident driver but last time we were in the UK I was terrified. There is supposed to be a 70 mile an hour speed limit on motorways, that has been totally ignored for years.

In very wet conditions me being on the inside lane probably doing 60. A car veares off from my right at about 120 near a junction and pulls off last minute with mobile phone in hand.

How many times does this happen once? No many, many times. Reason lack of funding to employ more traffic cops.

You can't get the number plate as they have often zoomed off

I have witnessed many deaths of innocent folk in A&E due to mobile phone use or drunk driving. A subject close to my heart. Not nice having to inform relatives x

I get so angry about it, its so needless - why don't people THINK !

Well I'm always on me guard, wish more people were - all I need is an extra steering wheel, brake etc and I'd be set :)

Don't think it matters to people not doing the legal thing, nearly as much as it is that people just don't want/like being told what they can or can't no. They will say, "I live in America, the land of the FREE, remember?" IOW, no matter how many people are killed from speeding or drunk driving, people will still speed and drink and drive.
