Let Me In is an odd vampire movie, interesting enough that I have watched it twice. It was based on a Swedish novel. Let The Right One In, about a friendless, often bullied, 12 year-old boy who develops a relationship with a female vampire, who has been his age for a long time, being a vampire. I have also watched the Swedish version of the same story, which has the same name as the novel, and both are very good. Nevertheless, I doubt that everyone would like it. I was intrigued with the way they have managed to make a gruesome story into a coming of age movie that manages to be rather sweet at the same time. This is not one of those bloodless vampire movies that have been popular in recent years, however.
I used to read Ann Rice's vampire novels when I was younger. They were full of emotion, feelings, even love, as well as a history of the vampire so detailed, you'd almost believe in them. If I still enjoyed reading about those creatures, I would like that Swedish book!
Anne Rice is interesting in that her writing has been in three seemingly disconnected genres: gothic fiction, erotica, and Christian literature.
I've only read her Gothic fiction. I didn't know about the other two, but I did read she became a returned Catholic at some point.
I need to point out that Let Me In is not that kind of a vampire movie, but a rather more gruesome one, yet with an innocence about it.
I've seen both Let Me In and Let The Right One In. I saw the both years ago, when they were first out, and I believe I own one of them, although I'm not sure which one. I'll have to go through my DVDs/BluRays and see if I can find it, because I enjoyed them both. I watched the Swedish one first, then introduced a friend to the other, since most of my friends prefer American made, English only movies.
The boy is less sexual and far less psychotic in the American version than in the Swedish version, but I guess if you're going to run away to live happily ever after with a vampire, a little bit of psychosis might be expected.
I would not recommend that you read Ann Rice's erotica books unless you are very broad minded. I consider myself quite broad minded and they made me blush. ooops! I mean the few pages that I did read. I enjoyed her vampire books, especially Interview With a Vampire.
My daughter loved her books, I could never get into any of the vampire type books or movies or anything to do with vampires. Although at one point years and years ago I always thought it would be sexy if a handsome vampire would suck my neck. Now I just worry I would bleed to death.
