Me, too. But there are some states (I believe there are 14 of them now) who are rolling out Facial Recognition for their driver's licenses. It's currently voluntary.

edit to add: I cannot find the states that are doing this, but I discovered that the FBI has agreements with 16 states to access their driver's license photo databases. As of 2012, that 41 states and the District of Columbia use face recognition technology to detect fraud in driver’s license applications.

    So, smile! Say Geez.

Several years ago, there was a proposal to add a thumb print to each driver's license, which was nothing more than a way to add to the database. That didn't pass. Originally, REAL ID was not going to be optional here, but they elected to allow people opt out.

Do you think that making it optional was only to get their foot in the door?

Sure, because the largest part of the population views REAL ID as being an enhanced identification card. After all, who'd want a fake ID? Most people have opted for REAL ID, I think, and once the percentage of those who didn't are small enough, it can be made compulsory without so much of a fuss.

They won't let you fly internationally without real id. That was why I thought about getting it. I don't think you can even DRIVE into Canada without one. But I seldom go 100 miles from home.

It never comes up at the Canadian border, and, despite the fact that the state was saying that Real ID would be required to enter any federal government buildings, I have been in the White House, the Capitol Building, and the Pentagon, and it never came up as an issue. I probably couldn't go to Canada now because I'm not vaccinated, but Real ID wouldn't be the problem. I have no interest in flying internationally so that's not a concern. I know that it's not a problem on domestic flights.

They postponed the requirements many times. I think the law is about 10 years old before postponements. I think covid was one of the last reasons. Maybe everyone forgot about it.

Monday night, as I was parked at the library - properly parked in a marked parking space - far away from any other cars because the library was closed (I conduct my SMART Recovery program at the library on Monday nights), some idiot managed to drive into my newly leased car, badly denting the door. Normally, I would call the police when such a thing occurs, but, this time, I decided not to, as it was my wife who ran into it. So now we have to have two cars repaired. There isn't much damage to the car she was driving, but the door will need to be replaced on the one I had been driving. Fortunately, it will only cost us a $500 deductible, but I don't know whether our rates will go up because of it.

If Michelle sees this, it could cost you more than $500.

How much does a funeral cost in Maine nowadays? :p

Ya remember the tooth fairy thing?
Well, the day after one turns 72, the skin fairy shows up and takes away any smooth stuff that’s left and leaves wrinkles whilst at the same time leaving the door open for the hair fairy.

I wondered about that. I was backing out of my garage and turning around in the widest part (which I do to go out frontwise) of our driveway. I bumped into the car of a friend who was helping clean the house.
I went to a body shop our insurance company uses and they asked if I had called the police.
    ?????
Minimal damage to our bumper and a cracked tail light. EIGHTEEN HUNDRED DOLLARS!!!!
The girl did not even go to get it checked as her car was maybe 14 years old.
I think I SHOULD go to the police.
Oh. I forgot. This is YOUR boring life.
