Giant pumice ‘raft’ could restore Great Barrier Reef A giant pumice island is drifting towards Australia, and scientists say it will bring millions of new corals to this world famous natural modern marvel..
Something they were going to do to try to save the reefs. Thought it was the same thing @Craig Swanson was referring to since I read about it recently.
We are always spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to rejuvenate the reef. This may be a cheaper way of restoring it and mother nature is doing all the work.
Great Barrier Reef is the Kohinoo Diamond of corals, supporting 64,000 jobs and adding A$6.5 billion ($5 billion) to the Australian economy through tourism, fishing, and related activities. But it’s disappearing fast. In a budget announcement on April 28, the Australian government said it set aside A$500 million to help protect corals. The money will be spent on reducing water pollution from agriculture, fighting coral-killing crown-of-thorns starfish, community engagement, reef monitoring, and research on climate adaptation. Funding for everything but the main thing that is killing this natural wonder.. tackling climate change. Greatly reducing the use of fossil fuels for our energy needs has to be the top priority. It makes me so mad.
