A week ago, I was walking along one of the local nature trails, and I saw first one, then a few more, and ultimately, a group of black vultures as they began gathering for their holiday feast. They're a fairly common sight around here, but I've never seen such a mass gathering, nor have I ever seen such a large fish in that water, which is brackish. Today, I went back for another walk, and saw a lone vulture standing vigil over the fish skeleton. It was pretty amazing. I know this may not be an unusual sight for those who grew up in the country, but although I live in the sticks now, I grew up a city girl, so I see things like this with fresh eyes.
