Diabetics, please avert your eyes. I saw this video a while ago and decided to try this cake today. It went together easily and will put you in a sugar coma faster than you can say "ice cream, please." I enjoy this woman's videos; she cooks like my grandma used to do. I probably won't make this again.
I watched until she put the layer in the oven. Now I'm drooling all over my keyboard. She sounds like she is from the south, y'all.
Dump cake is what my mother called it. I watched my grandmother and mother make this cake. It is as easy to make and yummy for the tummy.
She's from one of the Carolinas; I can't remember if it's North or South. I usually have to mute her videos because she does that "scraping the metal spoon on the pot" thing that makes my teeth hurt. I'd like to mail her a set of silicone spatulas.
It was definitely easy to make, Von. Kind of a little kick from the buttermilk, too. Very buttery cake.
Back then there was no self-rising flour so salt and baking powder had to be measured and added. They both sifted powdered sugar or lemon icing on top.
That lemon pound cake was one of my favorite desserts my grandmother made. I failed terribly trying to make it.
oooh noooo, I didn't see that, awww poor Phyllis, he was her life, have to say tho' I've been half expecting it for a while.. . I used to look at her channel at least twice a week, but I have to admit it's probably now about 6 months since I last looked, I'll go and catch up today..
Oh, I've just been catching up on Phyllis's videos... I had no idea she'd got so ill before Mr Bucky died, poor woman has been through hell the last few months, and now she hasn't posted in well over a month, so there's real concern for her out there now!! Sorry to derail this cake thread !!
Yes, she's had a very difficult past 6 months or so. I hope she is doing well with the cancer treatment, but his dying was a total shock. Anyway, I have watched her off and on for years; she's such a hard worker that it's hard to see the changes in her life. (And I have no problem with the topic!! We can share more of her recipes later. )
