One of my classmates was a full blooded Sioux Indian that was paying all his college costs with earnings from different rodeo events. Mine was all paid from the GI Bill

Of course we did; we have 5 kids and they all went to college or technical school.

We did not pay for any of our 6 kids to go to post high school. All went to college except for the youngest who attended technical school. I believe the kids are more motivated when they have to find a way to pay for it, just like anything else in life. We didn't buy cars or houses for our children either.

Why of course you say. Not all parents do. Some work there way through college. Some get schlorships.

I in no way indicated that "ALL" parents do. Our kids all had part-time jobs or scholarships to help, but we made sure they had paid tuition and books.

I understood your response. I know you did not say all parents. I think you like to argue Beth.

I was able to pay for one semester of my youngest daughter's college and that was only because of the inheritance my mom left me and my siblings when she passed.

Yes, both of them. One went to Iowa U. for her masters, and then on to Madison, Wisc. for her doctorate. We were with her all the way, and of course was at her graduation.
My other daughter, although she eloped in her senior with her music professor, we helped her also.
We are also helping our g daughter, who is in a doctoral program at Stanford.

We loved all of it, and wish we could do it again. Our other 2 g daughters are in junior high, and we hope to be around when they go to college - we have set aside funds for that.

I offered my son $5,000 to skip college and join the Army. He then got admitted to West Point, and I was honor bound to give him the 5 grand. Other than that, it was all his own efforts. He also paid for his own MBA after he got out of the military.

Okay, I made up the part about the $5,000, but he did go to West Point, so no tuition, etc.

I had no kids, so will speak for my parents.
There were 6 kids and no conversations at all about college.

My oldest sister went for a while paying her own way after high school but did not get a degree.
Another sister went to night classes while working and got a 4 year degree.
I went to night classes while working and got a 2 year degree and did not finish the 4 years degree.
There were 3 brothers, none of whom went to college.

My son got a full scholarship for his BA. My daughter had partial financial aid and was working right out of high school. Now both are returning adult students and I'm providing tuition and expenses for both, as well as helping my daughter in law who just finished a 2nd masters degree and has heavy student loan debt. I paid for my phd, MA and last year of the BA.

I contributed money through to completion of their degrees. I probably paid 50% of the cost.
